It was morning on the Enterprise, and it came with the slow creaking of wood deck around him, swelling in the heat of the morning, the sound of waves against the sides of the ship. Definitely a damn good way to wake up.
Even better was waking up between two warm bodies, one pressed to either side of him. On one side was his cabin boy, a young buck with a foolish head but a pleasing face and tongue. On the other, his first mate, a smug, stoic, uptight, ridiculously intelligent bastard who he had finally talked into ...sharing his bed. At least in the physical sense. He'd won the argument that the captain's bed was the most comfortable place on the ship, but anything beyond that was met with a pointed look and a reach for the sword hilt.
It was a damn good life here on the Enterprise.
He was Captain James T. Kirk of the pirate ship Enterprise, the most feared name on the open seas. He ran his crew with a mixture of charm, command, and the point of his sword. He was a good swordsman, a better brawler, and decent with a flint lock.

On the Farragut
Date: 2009-09-19 06:34 am (UTC)Wounded days before during a skirmish with another vessel, Garrovick had at first seemed to be on the way to recovery. A lucky thing, since his first mate and most of the other senior hands aboard the Farragut had perished in the attack, and the ship needed a leader more than ever. But the site of his injury had begun to fester, and as he became feverish and weak, tensions on the ship rose.
As Tina closed the Captain's - former Captain's - eyes she thought of how she must announce to the crew that he was dead, and shuddered. The ship would be thrown into utter chaos as various members of the crew attempted to take command.
She only hoped that her skills with a surgeon's saw and a needle would help her if her sword arm was not enough to secure a position under the new captain - whoever that might be.
Re: On the Farragut
Date: 2009-09-19 07:06 am (UTC)The Captain was dead. Or close enough that it didn't matter. She stepped over an old bloodstain and approached the corpse, ascertaining his death.
She glanced over at Tina and saw the grim look on her face. She realized that even they were not safe from the chaos that would soon come - even considering their lack of ambition for control of the entire ship.
Just in case, she felt her side, checking that her loaded pistol was still there. She then nodded at Tina and leaned against a shelf.
"Looks like we're in for a ride."
Re: On the Farragut
Date: 2009-09-19 07:13 am (UTC)She wiped her hands against the rag that hung from her belt, a gesture that had become so habitual in the past few days as her hands were steeped in blood that she didn't even notice that she was doing it.
"What do you plan to do, Meira?"
Re: On the Farragut
Date: 2009-09-19 07:22 am (UTC)She bit her lip. "We should decide now if we're treating everyone or no one. We can't afford to look like we're taking sides. Not now. At least until we know who's going to win."
She frowned suddenly. As much as herself and Tina were in danger, Pasha and Nova would be in more.
"What are you going to do?" she asked absentmindedly, feeling worried for her partners.
Re: On the Farragut
Date: 2009-09-19 07:28 am (UTC)She paused, struck by a sudden thought. "What of your girls? Do either of them have aspirations?"
Re: On the Farragut
Date: 2009-09-19 07:36 am (UTC)Meira winced. "Pasha may jump at the chance. She probably will. Nova... she didn't talk about it much. She's a wildcard in this situation."
She focused intensely on the patterns of stains and grime on the wall across from her, worrying about her girls.

Announcing Garrovick's Death
Date: 2009-09-19 06:22 pm (UTC)She left the surgery and came onto the deck, taking a moment for herself to enjoy the fresh salt-tinged air which came as such a relief after the heavy scent of blood and rot and bodily waste. And then she steeled herself, and rang the ship's bell firmly to draw the crew's attention.
"Captain Garrovick is dead," she called out.
And then, as people began to turn to one another, muttering urgently, already finalizing their plots, she retreated back belowdecks to the dubious safety of her blood-soaked hellhole.
Re: Announcing Garrovick's Death
Date: 2009-09-19 07:27 pm (UTC)She leaped atop a barrel and yelled to get everyone’s attention. Being direct was the best way. “Shipmates, I wish to put m’self forward for the position of Keptin-” She ignored the pointed sniggers at her pronunciation but soldiered on despite the whispers “ I all ready hawe a good idea of where to get our hands on some booty.” To illustrate her point she waved her furled map above her head.
“I am no dumb wench, ye all know that I have serwed this ship well for the past fiwe years and I am a fair woman. Trust me to become Keptin and I shan’t fail you.” She finished. Best to throw her hat in the ring first thing and show the crew that she was fearless, though it couldn’t have been further from the truth, she was absolutely terrified. Not only for herself but for her girls, she would do anything to protect them even if that meant putting her own life on the line.
Re: Announcing Garrovick's Death
Date: 2009-09-19 09:42 pm (UTC)"'m behind ye Captain, where's this booty?" She called, leaning against the railing.
Re: Announcing Garrovick's Death
Date: 2009-09-19 10:25 pm (UTC)“Ewer heard of the Isla del Risa? There is a cawe on the Northern peak that is rumoured to hawe enough gold and treasures for a queen. D’finitely enough that eweryone get’s their share.” She informed Winona loudly enough for the entire crew to hear.
Re: Announcing Garrovick's Death
Date: 2009-09-20 12:23 am (UTC)"Aye, Captain, I've heard of it. What are we waiting for?"
Re: Announcing Garrovick's Death
Date: 2009-09-20 02:08 am (UTC)"We should be on our way, then. All hands to their stations!" The girl commented as she moved towards the helm, her own station. She wasn't about to let someone mess up her beautifuly organised maps and drawing now was she?
The newly appointed Captain ran her hand reverently over the giant wheel, looked over her shoulder for deckhand floating about and assured herself there where no other people. She copied the motions of what she had often seen the old Captain do and whispered "It is nice to be equals with ye at long last lass. Please look after us me beauty." Pasha finnished by patting the wheel and yanking her compas from her belt, she wouldn't get anything done just by standing gossiping with the her ship.
Re: Announcing Garrovick's Death
Date: 2009-09-20 06:12 am (UTC)"Well that was damn quick! Too quick...make sure you watch your back...that is, when I cant." And pulling her to her, she gave her a not so innocent kiss, hand finding her backside and lingering there. She was going to be damn sure everyone knew where she stood, so let them stare. Her woman was Captain and anyone that didn't like it wouldn't make it down to let Meira close them up.

Date: 2009-09-20 12:52 pm (UTC)Pulling out her brass spyglass she smiled, turning to scanning the horizon and searching for whatever she could see.
She'd go tell Meira soon, but not yet, she really was a bit reluctant to leave, her adrenaline was pumping in a delicious way, and she didn't quite want to leave her on her own yet. She was fully aware Pasha could take care of herself (actually having been on the wrong end of it during a spat or two) but she didn't have to leave her to do it alone.

Date: 2009-09-20 08:56 pm (UTC)She felt that Marlena was a sensible choice as First mate, yet another strong woman aboard that people admired. Having a driving force such as her on the younger woman's side would work to great adavatage for the ship.
