Communication to All

Your oh so lovely Captain has reserved an entire bar for our use for our final night on Risa! You can get the position of it from the attached file. Nice little place, tucked up on the beach and right up against the waterline, full bar with everything you can imagine! I'll be seeing you all around sunset!

[OOC: This thread can run as long as we need it too, far past the 'end' of Risa Saturday night. Feel free to post anywhere, there's no order, who gives a damn about how the thread looks, just HAVE FUN!]

He arched an eyebrow at Jim's sudden enthusiasm, but followed him up the wall anyway. The rock and the grass were cool against his hands and through his shirt. At least this wouldn't change positions while they climbed it.

The very last climb up was the hardest. Kirk had to grip a rock with his bare toes and jump up, catching the edge and hauling himself up. On instinct, he turned around and leaned over the edge, offering Spock a hand up.

Later, he would reason it out to be chocolate that tempted him. Spock knew at the moment that he didn't need the extra help, but he took Jim's hand anyway, using that little extra boost to get himself up onto the plateau. Jim's grip was firm, the fingertips callused, the palm slightly gritty from climbing the rock, and his skin just as warm as Spock thought it would be against the breeze. The smallest gasp from his lips could easily just be mistaken for physical exertion.

Kirk made sure Spock was settled onto the rock before turning, and pausing. The view... was absolutely amazing. His hand still tucked into Spock's was forgotten as he stared out across the ocean, being able to see what seemed like forever. The two moons sat full and thick above them, gliding white and slick across the rolling ocean.

His thoughts still had no protection. Brief skitterings of memories - other full moons, other beaches, thinking Spock's eyes were surprisingly expressive, he drank more then he wanted but that was okay, where his shoes going to still be there when they got back, fuck Spock was hot, wonder if he could get Bones to sing for him in private, man has a sexy voice...

Spock would have thought this view beautiful, worth remembering, but now his attention was completely focused on this touch. He didn't have enough will power left to pull away from the warmth a second time, so now the grip stayed, locked between them.

This mental eavesdropping was a crime on Vulcan, he knew, with some distant and no inapplicable knowledge. Kae'at knal'lur. He should leave Jim's thoughts to himself, just like he should have refused the chocolate, just like he should have not touched him first and now. But Jim's thoughts were so warm, wholesome and sweet like honey, entertaining and fast-paced despite the calm relaxation of the evening. Spock's eyebrow twitched as he heard the thought about himself.

"Jim..." A quiet voice, his eyes still focused down on their hands.

It took a moment for Kirk to realize he was being spoken to. He looked back, a smile on his lips that was surprisingly innocent. Sounds nice, when he's trying not to kill me. This is nice, damn I think I need to eat when I get back, fuck those eyes... "...Yea?"

From: [identity profile] cso-spock.livejournal.com
It sounded like Jim hadn't even noticed, but they're hands were still touching, palm-to-palm. The initial electricity of the contact had dwindled to a comfortable tingle, the tiny physical effect of thoughts jumping between them like between the synapses of their individual nerves. Progressed what touch they had shared before. "...let us sit." It was the only suggestion he could think of making, because he couldn't really accomplish breathing with this grip much less walking.

"Sure." Kirk licked his lips, turning and using his grip to drag Spock over towards the very edge of the hill. He plopped down, his feet hanging over the edge, and stared out across the ocean. He hadn't even really thought about the hand in his, mind simply going full pace as it usually seemed to.

It's like double the sight with two moons. You can see forever. The thoughts too distant for them to be directed at Spock.

Spock sat tentatively on the edge next to him, peering over towards the ocean below. Another brief glance down at their hands--he wondered if he could interlace their fingers, decided he shouldn't/couldn't, and settled for what he had. Then he looked out towards the horizon and the reflection of the two moons in the water.

He kept an open mind to Jim's thoughts, but his own stayed quiet and guarded out of habit.

...this is nice. Almost like it was with Bones. Vulcans are always so warm, must be a bitch in the summer, nice in the winter. Probably would fucking freeze in an Iowa winter though. Wouldn't mind having him in be--

It all stopped for a second, and he looked down suddenly.

fuck!

He went to jerk his hand away, "Shit, sorry Spock, I didn't realize--"

"Jim." He stopped his apologies before they could get any further, and his grip remained firm over the other's hand. There was some reason to maintaining the grip now, seeing as they were on the edge of a rock face and the bottom didn't look too pleasing to hit at high velocities. "Do not apologize. Regardless of the subject matter, your thoughts are..." He hesitated, and that was the token amount of reason showing its face before it got pushed away.

Pleasing.

Surprised flared up in their touch, and Kirk looked up to Spock's face with wide eyes. It wasn't the first time he had heard Spock's voice in his head, but it was the first time it was coherant and not just a flare of words in reaction.

He licked his lips again, then relaxed only slightly, "You're sure?" He sounded slightly unsure himself.

Date: 2009-08-29 01:35 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cso-spock.livejournal.com
Spock looked back at him, memorizing that surprised expression, and then looked forward again. He nodded once. "Quite. If we are to meld so that I may instruct you, then I will grow accustomed to your thoughts anyway."

From: [identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com
It was different then melding. Melding was intimate, immediate and hot and together, but this... was intimate in a different way. He knew that now, thanks to the other Spock. This Spock.. was basically letting him get to first base.

"...okay." Said in a still unsure tone, but.. pleased.

This could be counted as a victory, in the scheme of things. Their hands were still together, fitting neatly into the groove of each, and their shoulders were almost-but-not touching. The night was pleasant, quiet except for the ocean...

"...soon, you should be able to guard your thoughts from this contact. It is not too difficult."

"...I'm gonna need it, as a captain." He tilted his eyes down to their hands, and just smirked, very slightly. He slowly rubbed his thumb over Spock's hand, wishing he could understand Spock and what the hell was going on in his head. "...Let me try it?" He tilted his head, not even believing himself that he was saying it.

"I mean.." His words left him, as they rarely did. ...wanna feel how it does with him. The meld.

From: [identity profile] cso-spock.livejournal.com
He looked over at Jim with obvious surprise, both at the motion on his hand and the words. It was enough to let his barriers slip, just once and very briefly, Why?tookindtoowillingblueeyesnicesmileandjimmaybe--. Coherent, but just fast, lightning flashes of thought and surface reasoning.

"If you wanted to--perhaps we should do so in a safer location?" His other hand gestured to the vertical drop around them.

Date: 2009-08-29 02:56 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com
The thoughts came too fast to piece out fully, so Kirk just blinked for a moment as he tried to think it through. A part of him was just amazed that he had shocked Spock. "...let's back up a bit?" He looked over his shoulder to the nice flat surface at the top of the hill, just the palm trees and some low grasses.

Why was he doing this? Why had he asked?

From: [identity profile] cso-spock.livejournal.com
Spock nodded once, and slid his hand from Jim's, his hot fingertips trailing off the edge of the palm. He moved back, getting to his feet just long enough to get away from the edge under the curving palm trees. Sitting cross-legged, he motioned silently for Jim to sit in front of him.

He wasn't Vulcan, but that didn't stop Kirk from shivering as those fingers played over his palm. Was ... Spock playing with him? He blinked at Spock, letting out a breath before following. He slowly sat down in front of Spock, realizing he might have been in over his head. "...just talk to me about what you're doing."

"Our minds will join, though interaction will be limited to my side for the time being, so that we may compare it to your mind later. There will be no transfer of memories, no bond formation," Though he could practically feel that red-god thread-but-more pulsing strongly between them, just like that night. "... and no instruction. We are simply getting acquainted, and you are becoming accustomed to the process of melding." Just friends?

Date: 2009-08-29 03:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com
Kirk gave Spock a long look, then said cautiously, "...I'm warning you right now, I'm not to blame for what's going on in my head." He had no idea what might pop up, honestly, good, bad, or porny.

He took a breath, then gestured, "...all yours." He held up his fingers in a bad rendition of a familiar pattern. "Face me."

Date: 2009-08-29 04:10 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cso-spock.livejournal.com
Spock may or may not have been smirking at Jim's horrible imitation of the meld hand positioned. His own hands came up to fix this immediately, sliding light touches between Jim's fingers, widening the spaces, thumbs pressing into the palm as the bend of his knuckles was corrected into a better position.

"This may feel uncomfortable at first," He said as he did this, though didn't sound very apologetic. "Though you have adequate hands, and they should span between the meld points without trouble."

Date: 2009-08-29 04:15 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com
It dropped from Kirk's mind what this might have been between Vulcans as he concentrated on what was happening. His brow furrowed as he concentrated on getting it right. "It's just a little awkward when you're not used to it..." He muttered, wriggling his fingers before trying to mirror the position again.

"So what exactly are the meld points?" He questioned, looking to Spock's face as if trying to see the invisible points.

Date: 2009-08-29 04:57 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cso-spock.livejournal.com
"They are the points where the chemistry of your nervous system may be most easily altered with the least pressure. The meld still contains a physical element, though it may not feel as such."

The hand now in its proper position, or near enough for their purposes, Spock brought it to touch his face, his eyes locked with Jim's while he did so. Then he brought his own hand up to Jim's face, his fingers smoothly finding and pressing into the meld points with ease. The electricity already tingled beneath his fingers before he uttered the ritual phrase,

"Wanimo kae k'yanimo kae." Vulcan. As if the experience couldn't be anymore foreign to Jim without him using it.

His mind was, unsurprisingly, not too different from that of his counterpart's. Corridors and doors that all looked the same and curved off into the distance, vaulted ceilings and dark stone walls. Yet, here, in this meld, Spock was not hidden in the recesses of his mind, but standing right there next to Jim in this wide hallway.

The image of him flickered between several uniforms, something with a grey-white long-sleeved shirt, the black uniform he wore at the Academy, the blue-black uniform he wore on the ship...and then settled on the all-black, the collar done up properly, the fabric pressed and ready for the day of dealing with cadets and bureaucracy. Spock looked down at himself, pulling at the top jacket slightly. "Still." There was some mild disappointment, either in his voice or radiating from the world around them.
