Communication to All

Your oh so lovely Captain has reserved an entire bar for our use for our final night on Risa! You can get the position of it from the attached file. Nice little place, tucked up on the beach and right up against the waterline, full bar with everything you can imagine! I'll be seeing you all around sunset!

[OOC: This thread can run as long as we need it too, far past the 'end' of Risa Saturday night. Feel free to post anywhere, there's no order, who gives a damn about how the thread looks, just HAVE FUN!]

The warmth coiled down from his hand until it finally sank into the core of his mental-body, the unadulterated, honest affection from Jim slipping into his thoughts and the deeper levels of his mind with ease. Spock could question it, he could wonder whether he should be indulging in this or whether he actually deserved it--but that would ruin a perfectly pleasant meld. Do you...want to return? Time didn't stand still, his own mind was telling him that, but he would be content to coil together, as it were, for as long as Jim wanted under stars that actually meant something.

Kirk thought for a long moment, then just... smiled. Too bad the ground isn't grass. We could just sit here like I used to do back home, watch the stars. Stone's not meant for that. He seemed very content though, just to relax, relax with Spock for a little while. Time seemed to stand still here even though it obviously didn't, just... enough to let him stay quiet, calm, before returning to his chew and the party.

It is my mind, Jim. I should be able to change it as I wish. Should didn't mean he could, though he wasn't sure he wanted to experiment with the architecture of his mind while Jim was still in here. And, well, ...yet the effects of the chocolate make it more difficult. The smallest tone of disappointment, that he could not, for the moment, make this more comfortable for him.

It didn't seem to bother Kirk really, though. It's your mind, it makes itself into what it wants, I guess. He looked down to their joined hands, something that seemed almost out of place in its strangeness but felt surprisingly right. Like curling up against Bones at night.

Slowly, Spock brought up his other hand, folding it loosely over the back of Jim's, the little finger curling briefly up his wrist. His thoughts were beginning to peacefully wander into details of reality, even though it was far away and nonthreatening. Perhaps that was why he was thinking about it.

Jim... He wondered whether he should broach the subject, but it felt inevitable. Spock would rather talk about it here, mind to mind, than with the complexities of being completely separate. Outside this meld... His acceptance of the fact did not lessen the difficulty of this. While he appreciated this--would, in fact, not mind more of this, whatever this was--he did not want to force an obligation onto either of them, regardless if it was separate from the reality outside. He made this known, wordlessly, through their connection.

That was a surprisingly easy one. Kirk looked to Spock with a tiny smirk, Outside of this meld? We're Captain and First Officer, sometimes Jim and Spock. As humans say, whatever happens here, stays here. He squeezed Spock's hand tightly for a moment. That was just the way things needed to be.

Relief. Not a heaving internal sigh of it as if curtailing life-threatening danger, but something small that kept him relaxed and his thoughts easy. His hand lingered over Jim's, feeling the strength of that hand under his fingertips and in his grip. ...an acceptable agreement. (Good.)

Glad you like it. Kirk couldn't help the faint tease, rubbing his thumb slowly against Spock's skin. Oddly drier then human skin and definitely warmer. He sighed, then finally nodded.

Come on, we should get back to the party before they start worrying where the Captain's gone to.

Of course. Spock slowly slid his fingers out from their laced grip. His fingertips lingered over Jim's for the briefest moment, and then they were pseudo-separated again. Let us return.

Spock led him out of the hall before he slowly dissolved the meld, separating their minds as gently as he could with little uncomfortable feedback. The outside world began to filter back in one sense at a time, until he finally opened his eyes. He was leaning closer to Jim, hands unmoved from his face and callused fingers still pressed to his own meld points. The moonlight shone down from high above them, hinting at the passage of time that had continued despite their removal from it.

He knew that he should keep all mention and memory of it to that small part of his mind so that it won't interfere with the rest of his thoughts, but it was necessary. So he fired off one last thought before he dropped his hand from Jim's face, a soft and almost-shy thank you.

Kirk's hand did not immediately move from Spock's face. Instead, he sat in place, unmoving, for just a few longer moments. It was like returning to his own skin yet never having left it, sinking down into his own mind like his soul didn't want to leave where it had been. That, he was immediately sure of. Souls... katras, whatever. That was what a mind-meld really was. A meeting of souls.

Finally his eyes opened, and he stared at Spock from a surprisingly short distance away. They were leaning into each other to the point Kirk would have said that their foreheads would have been together like in the meld if it wasn't for their hands. Spock's eyes were pure black in the light of the moon, chips of obsidian that had softened edges.

The tiny thank you sent a surprising feeling of almost... protectiveness sliding through Kirk. He wanted to protect Spock, keep him safe from his own loneliness, that was for sure. Very quickly he was coming to learn there was far more to his first officer then met the eye.

He realized he was still touching Spock, and slowly let his hand fall from the Vulcan's face. His fingertips were tingling - side effect of the meld he assumed. "...that-" Had to stop, work his throat, "That was something else." He finally got out, followed by almost sheepish laugh.

He resisted the urge to remind Jim that of course it was different: a meld without pain, with quite a lot of other things on the opposite end of the spectrum from pain, between just the two of them with no voyeur or interference. Amusement helped this resistance. After all, Jim wasn't the only one who indulged in stating the obvious.

"As it should be." Spock stood smoothly, and then offered a hand to Jim. He felt confident in doing this; they had boundaries now, regardless of whether they were fuzzy and unexplored. "We must return you to the party."

"...Gonna come to the party for a little while?" He asked curiously, taking that hand and getting to his feet. If the grip lasted a bit longer then it should have, well, Kirk didn't seem to notice.

A grin came to his lips easily, looking at Spock in the low light as paradise surrounded them and the stars that were their home looked down on them. Captain and First Officer, and maybe, slowly, friends.

"Come on, let's go. Everyone's waiting for us."

They could do this, he was certain. They had spent two evenings without going at each other's throats, regardless of whether it was laced (helped) by chocolate and calm nights. The touch of Jim's mind to his own wouldn't change if he had eaten the whole bar or none at all, just like his eyes wouldn't be a different brilliance of blue, or that smile any less honest.

"As you wish."

[OOC - Please forgive this, I couldn't let it slide.

Jim was amazed to discover that when Spock said "As you wish," what he really meant was "I love you."]
