kirktastic: ((Captain) Pay your respects.)

It had gone out as an announcement over a month ago, sent to every padd and station by one very excited Captain. A Halloween party! Must come in costume, must have fun!

Despite the hell that had been going on for the last few days, Kirk was determined that it still would happen. After a long discussion with the ship's quartermaster, along with a small army of crewmen who wanted to help, the largest rec room was decorated.

A huge buffet table had been prepared by the galley and sat spread out, all in Halloween theme. Green punch with floating eyeballs, cake decorated to look like a gravestone, a huge bowl of candy, a holographic severed hand that was scurrying around on the table top. There was even a bar set up with quite an expanse of liquor that had been secured on Risa.

There was a small seating area off to one corner, a huge dance floor, tables spread out for a real meal, and a small corner set up for music.

(OOC: Just like the thread with Risa... this is a party that's 'open' from now until Sunday night at midnight! Go nuts! This IS supposed to be IC, like the Risa party, so keep that in mind!)

"I wouldn't have put you a day over thirty." Alright, so it might be flattery, but it was also true. "So you're another new member of the not-dead club then?"

Em chuckled. "Like I said, you are a sweet one. Must've had one too many of those candies on the table." She cocked her head to the side. "There's a not-dead club? I guess I would be a part of it. apparently, I was dead and now I'm not." She reached out and touched his ear. "I almost half expect pointy li'l ears on you." She blushed a bit. "My apologies. I'm sure you get that a lot."

He nodded. "My friend DeForest is also an honorary member. Showed up in an internet cafe out of the blue after having been dead for ten solid years. Taking it all a bit hard, but hopefully he'll adjust in time."

He smiled at her comment. "You don't know the half of it. The first time I met my Vulcan counterpart, I kept looking for the make-up glue-lines on his ears."

"I'm guessing he woke up in a world without his loved one." Her smile faltered a bit again. "That was the rude awakening I got. David's...passed on and Lenny's..." She cast a look over to her son...Cupid. "Last time I saw Lenny, he was a carefree 18 year old that just got to Ole Miss." She chuckled again at his description. "My, that must've sparked a lot of interest."

"And what would your wife say if she knew you were on the business end of my lasso?"

"Yeah, his wife of over fifty years." Leonard's face softened with genuine sympathy. "I'm truly sorry, that can't be easy. But for what it's worth, I'm sure your son can use his mother right now, what with everything that's happened."

Perhaps best to leave it at that for now.

"Believe it or not, she's actually remarkably flexible about that kind of thing. She might demand pictures of me roped in, though."

"He's a grown man, Mr. Nimoy. And grown men rarely need their mommas. Plus I have a grandbaby to look after." She thought about his statement. "Maybe I should send you with my lasso whenever they figure out how to send you back home. All tied up, trussed, and ready for your wife."

"Maybe not in the way he used to, no. But in my experience, children will always be appreciative of a supporting parent, no matter how grown up they become." He tilted his head curiously. "His daughter's on the ship? Huh. I figured she'd be back on earth with his ex-wife."

The mental image she was conjuring made him laugh, as he shook his head in amusement. "I don't think De would ever recover from the mental scarring if you did that."

"I should take advice from a 70 year old man, shouldn't I?" she laughed. "Oh no, she's not the little one. This one is apparently from the future. She's quite a looker, if I do say so myself." She folded up the loop again and attached it to her side. "If De doesn't recover, Lenny might just die of embarrassment. Hell, I can't even truss up a turkey at Thanksgiving." She cocked her head to the side. "Say...did anyone play me in your alternative universe?"

"I swear, if people keep popping up at this rate, they'll soon run out of places to put us." He grinned with amusement. "Neither could I, for that matter. City boy, born and raised in Boston, that's me. Although I do enjoy riding." An apologetic headshake. "No, not that I remember. The only family members that popped up in the series were Jim's brother and Spock's parents, as far as I recall. Mostly it was just Aliens of the Week kind of stuff, with the Klingons as recurring villains."

"First night here, I was curled up on Lenny's cot in his office." She shrugged. "If they take my place away, I could always commandeer said cot again. I'm used to it. I'm a city girl, myself. Born and raised in San Fransisco. I only moved to Georgia for graduate work."

"I'd love to see this era's San Francisco, see how much has changed." He'd always rather liked the place - far less hectic than LA, for one. "What was your field of study?"

"I've seen Dad's old blueprints and photos of San Fransisco of your time. It seemed quaint. Though he used to complain about the mundaneness of opening doors yourself and gas cars that would pollute the air. Personally, I loved the old fashioned doors when I moved out to Athens." She smiled. "My original field of study was biology, my undergraduate was in bioengineering. But I just...fell in love with osteology and decided to go into anthropology instead. Their bonework is much more extensive. I was working on how to regenerate bone marrow when..." She waved her hand. "You know, I died."

"Have to say, I gotta agree about the pollution. I mean, I've always loved driving, but LA of my time in particular, not too pretty with all the smog and that's not even beginning to consider climate change. But the doors I'm with you on. These high-tech things just don't slam properly when you want them to, you know?"

His smile turned a little sheepish. "For someone who's played a science officer, my knowledge is sadly limited on that score, I'm afraid. So, you looking forward to catching up with over a decade worth of research papers?"

From: [identity profile] emma-mccoy.livejournal.com
"Ah, I remember reading about the great Smog of LA. And I definitely agree. Slamming doors is quite therapeutic. Having doors slide close kind of just...takes the edge off it. Seems a bit impersonal to me but what do I know?" She waved off his excuse. "Please, I'm not going to drill you on where your C-4 vertebrae is." Her research. "Actually, right now I'm focusing on my family. I don't think I'll have time to catch up on a decade's worth of papers. Nor would I want to. They're boring and dry. I'd rather do the research myself."

"And you? Do you just act?"

"Us Americans used to be a little too obsessed with cars, really. Some of the suburbs didn't even have sidewalks, which I always thought was a little excessive." Focusing on family seemed like a sensible course of action to him, given the circumstances.

"Oh, I was actually retired from acting until they decided to make the new Star Trek movie, the one set in this universe, and it brought me out again. But my main hobby's photography, really - I've always enjoyed it, but retirement gave me the opportunity to explore it professionally as well."

"I remember we got Lenny an old clunker for a transport. he complained but loved the hell out of that thing." She listened intently. "Star...Trek? What's Star Trek? Is that the show you were talking about?" She smiled. "Maybe I should ask you to help shoot some photos of my family to fill up my room. My office was full of photos from everyone."

"Yes, that's what it was called. And I'd be happy to take some pictures, if I had a camera. Still figuring out how to work those replicators."

From: [identity profile] emma-mccoy.livejournal.com
"Oh those replicators aren't so bad. I always thought they were pretty straight forward. Hell, I got it to spit out this."

"Well, ours decided to break within our first few days on the ship, and produce everything with extra added catfood. I discovered this when I had my morning coffee, so I'm admittedly somewhat distrustful of the things now."

From: [identity profile] emma-mccoy.livejournal.com
Em wrinkled her nose. "Ew, catfood flavored coffee. Why not just get some food from the mess? Or ask anyone else to replicate something for you?"

Date: 2009-11-02 01:27 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] len-not-spock.livejournal.com
"Oh we have been doing that, and they're all fixed now. Wouldn't be wearing this suit otherwise," Leonard gestured, "but still, I'm suspicious. Anything that can break that easily is bound to cause trouble some day."

Date: 2009-11-02 01:33 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] emma-mccoy.livejournal.com
"Oh come now, what's an appliance that didn't break every once in a while? I'm sure if you asked nicely, a replicator would spit out an old fashioned camera. Did you use the square ones or the big clunky looking ones?"

Date: 2009-11-02 02:35 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] len-not-spock.livejournal.com
"Single lens reflex, yes the big clunky ones. And I'm sure the replicator would be able to whip up any ordinary one, but," he shrugged, "I'm rather particular about my camera. It's not just any old object, you know? There's so many tiny differences between models that your average person who just take pictures as a hobby probably wouldn't even notice, but they make all the difference to me. Took me ages to find the right one in the first place."

She widened as she took in the information. "Maybe you'd be able to find it in a specialty catalog or even an antique shop?" she suggested.

From: [identity profile] len-not-spock.livejournal.com
"That's an idea," Leonard agreed. "Failing that, I may be able to hunt down the specifications on the internet of our time, since we seem to have some strange kind of transdimensional link to it or something. Sulu's offered to see what he could do if I managed to get him that info, so I think that's probably my best shot."

[OOC - LOL, sorry, but 'she widened' - best typo EVER. Now I can't get the image out of my head of Emma getting hot over camera specifications. XD]
