[HALLOWEEN PARTY!] -- [Open to ALL PLAYERS!] -- [IC Event!]

It had gone out as an announcement over a month ago, sent to every padd and station by one very excited Captain. A Halloween party! Must come in costume, must have fun!

Despite the hell that had been going on for the last few days, Kirk was determined that it still would happen. After a long discussion with the ship's quartermaster, along with a small army of crewmen who wanted to help, the largest rec room was decorated.

A huge buffet table had been prepared by the galley and sat spread out, all in Halloween theme. Green punch with floating eyeballs, cake decorated to look like a gravestone, a huge bowl of candy, a holographic severed hand that was scurrying around on the table top. There was even a bar set up with quite an expanse of liquor that had been secured on Risa.

There was a small seating area off to one corner, a huge dance floor, tables spread out for a real meal, and a small corner set up for music.

(OOC: Just like the thread with Risa... this is a party that's 'open' from now until Sunday night at midnight! Go nuts! This IS supposed to be IC, like the Risa party, so keep that in mind!)

"That's always a good sign. Hate bein' in sickbay when I have to be there," Joanna wrinkled her nose.

"Thanks." She appreciated that. Mmmmm and it wasn't a hardship to watch him leave, either.

Sam poured two cups of ginger ale, then balanced two plates with cake on them in one hand, while holding the cups with the other. He had to be extremely careful of the other people at the party as he made his way back to the table.

This wasn't how he had envisioned spending his time at this party, but he wasn't going to object. She seemed nice enough.

She took it with a nod of thanks."Tell me about yourself?"

Sam set her plate and cup before her, then stopped to produce a fork from his pocket.

"Not much to say. I haven't done much with my life. You?"

"Sometimes feels like I've done too much," Joanna said. "I'm almost through with my first master's degree, an ensign, and I'm barely twenty two. And you've got to've done somethin'. You don't wind up on the Enterprise on account of good looks, after all."

"Looking around, you wouldn't know that," Sam said with a chuckle as he settled back into his chair.

"Mmmm. yes, the Enterprise does provide a lot of good lookin' folks to stare at," Joanna agreed.

"I didn't realize how many," Sam said between bites of his cake. "Obviously, I need to get out more."

Oh yeah, the cake. She should probably nibble on it, shouldn't she? She took up her fork and took a bite, closing her eyes in bliss. So good.

"Just got on board?"

"I've been on for a little while... but I was detained in sickbay and stuff." Sam said with a shrug.

"If you want I can show you around sometime," Joanna offered. So far the ship was about identical to her memories of it when she was seven.

"What do you think?" Sam asked, gesturing to the cake.

"It's not like I've got a lot to do, anyway, so showing you around would be a pleasure."

"Mmmmmm," Joanna hummed at it. "Made my appetite come back, that's for sure. And the ginger ale isn't bad either."

There was something a little too casual about that statement, but Sam didn't want to pry.

"No... it's good. It reminds me of being on Earth."

"I only barely remember Earth," Joanna admitted softly. "Been so long since I was there."

"It was nice," Sam said. "I haven't been there since I was a teen. I should go back sometime."

Joanna could hardly believe that there was an earth go to. "Wonder if we'll get there... I haven't been since I was seven."

"They have to go back sometime." He finished his cake and pushed the plate away.

"Hopefully," Joanna shook her head, still incredibly weirded out by the idea. "I haven't even spent a long time on a planet since I was fifteen. Love space."

"Space is okay for the first decade," Sam said. "But after that it just gets monotonous."

"Maybe you just haven't been on an adventurous enough ship," Joanna suggested lightly. "I've been told, repeatedly, that planetside is awesome, but...aside from leave it seems kind of boring and monotonous. That sounds jaded, doesn't it?" She laughed at herself.

Sam chuckled to himself. This girl obviously had no clue who he was.

"Planetside is fantastic. There's something great about having living ground beneath your feet."

"And earth quakes, and rain not to mention thunderstorms, hurricanes... lot of death and destruction and no way to avoid it," Joanna muttered.

"Not all planets are volcanically active... and some don't have organized weather systems," Sam pointed out. He'd always found planets to be much safer than space.

"Rain sucked," Joanna informed him. "If I wanted to take a shower, I'd not go outside to take one. Oh well. Been anywhere interesting?"
