kirktastic: ((Away Mission) Thank you Mr Izzard)

(OOC: If you want to be a part of this away mission, please read the whole post including OOC comments at the end for all information, captains orders, etc.)

Kirk stared down at the ice planet on the forward view screen unhappily. He didn't have the best relationships with ice planets, and the idea of going down to this one had him less than pleased. The circumstances surrounding it he liked even less. The report he had gotten from Starfleet was complete - up until one week ago. The colony on the planet had vanished into silence, reminding him painfully of Juxta. The Enterprise happened to be the closest ship capable of handling something like this, and here they were.

The information started off basic. It wasn't a colony meant to spread humanity throughout the universe, but instead it was meant sheerly to be able to harvest a rare mineral that didn't get formed beneath the ground, but was actually contained in the ice itself. There were more detailed reports on that, but that was more Spock's area than his. A colony of more than two hundred that had been reporting well and good up until a week ago, but when their weekly report came, Starfleet got nothing at all.

The colony was spread out over a large area - Kirk had a good set of maps to work with - but the area was dangerous. The ice seemed to spread and move almost like a living thing, and Starfleet suggested that if something happened to, say, the colony's energy sources, it could have already started taking over buildings.

Jim stared down at the console in front of him, then stood up. Messages flew out to certain people quickly, Jim leaning over and typing, unable to sit still.

To: Spock, Bones

I need you to look over the attached information, find me the best people you think will be right for this. We'll need to be able to cover a large area to get all information required. Get back to me, quickly.

Captain Kirk

He set Communications on trying to reach anyone at all down on the planet. His father and Uhura in particular, knowing they above all others would be able to pull off a miracle while they got their away team together.

There was just something in his bones that wasn't settled right about this, and he didn't even know why.

It was almost enough for him just to feel those hands at his hips, a light pressure to keep him back against baser urges.

I know it is not appropriate. Spock observed, hands running up Leonard's arm and touching at his chest again, touching and re-learning in the dark. I will not force you. Apologetic. Neither will Jim likely approve...

There's a lot we have to talk about. All of us. Feelings were a jumbled mess inside his head, all of which had to be evident to someone who could read minds. He caught one of Spock's hands with his own, allowing their fingers to slide together slow as he held it against his heart. I know that won't happen again, not like that. It's over now, gone.

Quiet sigh. Jim would not approve, but he would understand. It would be the same with me, if he were here next to you. He let a flash of his jealousy flare through, the idea that they would be together without him, knowing it would happen and he was powerless to stop it. We'll get through it.

His first instinct was to soothe that jealousy with a flow of calm into Leonard's thoughts. Why would he be jealous if they were all of one unit, equal amongst each other and just as comfortable (ideally)? His fingers tightened briefly around Leonard's hand. We shall.

That didn't mean he pulled away, or tried to lessen the sudden intimacy he had introduced between them. His hips still pressed close, enjoying the contact everywhere so that the bond continued to hum with the utmost pleasure. His thumb brushed against the side of Leonard's finger, back and forth and enjoying it where he didn't have to worry himself with appearances.

He got back to the bags (http://kirktastic.livejournal.com/49863.html?thread=3063239#t3063239), thumping down hard, and realized he couldn't feel his fingers that much anymore. "Bones!"

Bones was watching Spock's fingers sliding against his own, fascinated how that simple gesture seemed to spark such joy in Spock, evident in the way the bond was singing between them. He could see how people could get used to this sort of intimacy.

Then he heard Jim's voice, and he looked up. Unzipping the bag, he instinctively pressed closer to Spock as a rush of cold air filled the bag. "Jim!" he called, out, worried at the dazed look on his face. He looked frozen. "Hurry up, Jim, get in here!" Did he need help?

"...I can't feel my fingers," Jim looked up, blinking a little. "Help?" He pawed at his outer coat without success.

"Stay here," he murmured to Spock, moving his body up and reaching for Jim. He dragged him down towards the open bag, pulling as quickly at Jim's clothing as he could, unzipping and unfastening and soon Jim was naked and shivering inside the bag with them.

Fuck, Jim was so cold... "Your turn in the middle," Bones told him, sliding Jim between his body and Spock's, now warmer than the man between them. He looked over at Spock, clearly worried.

Briefly, an instinctive part of him loathed them both for introducing a wealth of cold air into the bag, and then more so for making themselves cold.

As soon as Jim was squished between them, Spock molded himself against Jim's back, arms wrapping tight around his waist and breathing softly against the back of his shoulder. I suppose the storm is still causing interference? His mind curled into Jim's, trying to bring them all into a relaxed, low-energy state.

Jim gasped at the heat of their bodies, almost painfully warm now. He burrowed his face into Bones' shoulder, eyes squeezing shut. Yea. It's still raging out there. Swear its even colder than it was. He let out a breath as he started shivering.

Bones held him tight, one hand on the back of Spock's neck as he pulled them all close to each other. Jim felt frozen through but he was shivering, which was a good thing, medically speaking. Pressing his lips on Jim's forehead, Bones gave him a tender kiss, probably not wise given their situation, but he couldn't help himself. Then we stay out of the cold for a little while.

Hopefully the others had found shelter, Bones thought, resting his head against Jim's.

His thoughts skirted around activities they could try while waiting for the storm to die down and communications to come back up, but, perhaps, it was still not appropriate. Leonard had kept him at bay, Jim would likely do the same, and Jim was still cold.

Leonard's hand cupping over the back of his neck felt nice, too, but he focused his thoughts away from the implications of that to simply enjoy the touch of Jim's mind.

But it is perpetually cold according to climate projections. Are we to remain here indefinitely?

It would be a while before Jim was fully ready for things like that again with Spock. His body, even more so, his mind, could still remember what had happened to end them with this bond. Right now, it was more than they had done since then, nude bodies pressed up against each other, legs and arms and mind tangled together.

No. It isn't... isn't the cold. It's the storm. Just have to wait until the storm dies down.

One hand firmly holding onto Spock, Bones could feel Jim's thoughts, like he was listening underwater. Wait until the storm dies down... He supposed at least they were safe here, the three of them, though part of him worried for the others.

Every time one of them moved, hands and legs shifted, new skin being touched, thoughts open and free in a way Bones had never known before. Good, in a way; scary, in a way. Do you think this storm was created by the creature? It's pissed 'cause we're here on its planet?

It could control a small portion of the local weather when it attacked me, Spock recalled. His forehead pressed up against the back of Jim's shoulder. There is no evidence that it can manipulate the weather completely.

I think it's just an ice storm. There's nothing we can do for now. I don't know what to do about that thing... how can we stop it from hurting other people? What about the others right now on the planet? There was real, deep worry in his heart for the others that had followed him down onto this ice ball.

Bones was worried for them as well. But if they couldn't get out of here, the right thing to do was to hunker down and wait for the storm to end, go find their people, and get the fuck off this planet. Sounds like no one's left here, and we're just a damned snack.

That metaphor only applies if it returns to consume us. Spock remembered the sensation of death that he had been communicated and shivered. Once that muscle spasm died down, he pressed close to Jim again. I would have liked an opportunity to study the mechanism of its existence...

"SPOCK." Jim said as he looked over his shoulder. What is wrong with you? It wants to kill us and you're wanting to dissect it!?

The bag had warmed again, the amazing material using their body heat to efficiently conduct the warmth to all of them. Bones' shoulder was hurting from being on his side so much, so he shifted again, rolling onto his back and moving them with him, one of either side so they could look at each other, but still touching, still close enough to hold each other. Like three sides of a triangle...

Each of his arms slung around the other man's waist and he sighed, focused on Spock's thoughts as he pulled them closer. The feeling of sadness and death that he was sharing, from the creature... was that- You feel pity for it, don't you? He wasn't sure how else to describe that feeling Spock was emoting.

He didn't mind the jostling, and it still kept each of them within his touch, pressed up against Leonard's side while his hand touched at Jim's arm. It did nothing, of course, for his attempts to ignore thoughts that were easier to contemplated, especially when his hip pressed into Leonard's side and he slung one leg over his.

Yes, though it is dangerous to do so with a creature that intends to kill you and your colleagues. There is also scientific merit in knowing how an undead creature works, through unique energy patterns or otherwise...only its sentience and experience are set against us.

Jim shook his head in disbelief. He nosed in against Bones before he closed his eyes in the darkness of their warm-spot, tangling their bodies together into a mess of skin and bones sealed together in worry and sweat. He didn't need to look to hear them, or their thoughts. The psuedo-unusual bond with Bones made their feeling stronger, a disconnected pathway from Spock that circumvented him.

How could a dead creature still be here in this form? Since they had little else to do, thoughts like these would be at least something to keep their minds off of worrying. Like... a ghost and a zombie combined. He and Bones were no shortage of horror movies in their past movie watching nights.

Bones' fingers threaded through Jim's hair, scratching lightly the way he knew Jim liked it. If anyone had told him at the beginning of the day that this was what was going to happen to him, naked between these two men in a relatively non-sexual sort of way, he'd have told them they were out of their minds. But here he was, and here they were - and it wasn't as weird as it should have been.

Especially feeling the thoughts, from both of them. He had to hand it to the Vulcans, it really was convenient, in a way, words not getting in their way. He knew exactly what Jim was talking about, from just the image in his head. We've seen dead come back to life before, maybe its like that? Or it never really died, just went insane from grief...

But how does that explain the transposition of its spirit from its skeleton? The bone casing they were huddling in, clearly. In our experiences, the entire individual has been revived, body and mind.

His knee nudged up a bit, innocently touching at things he had been more intent on earlier.

Jim had been away for their little.. play earlier, and felt something shift in Bones like he hadn't before. He wasn't sure what to make of it but noted it with curiosity. I don't think it's been revived like anything we know, but... well, ghosts are supposed to be someone who hasn't passed on, who is linked to someone or somewhere or maybe something because they had unfinished business, which this thing has in spades.

It was almost easier for him to imagine it come back from the dead than a ghost. What more does it have to do, eat us? Strip more energy? It's already had all the colonists, it sounds like.

He felt Spock's shifting, only half-noticing the intent behind it, though his hand slid up to its previous spot at the back of Spock's neck. It felt comfortable there, a good fit for his large hand.
