It had gone out as an announcement over a month ago, sent to every padd and station by one very excited Captain. A Halloween party! Must come in costume, must have fun!

Despite the hell that had been going on for the last few days, Kirk was determined that it still would happen. After a long discussion with the ship's quartermaster, along with a small army of crewmen who wanted to help, the largest rec room was decorated.

A huge buffet table had been prepared by the galley and sat spread out, all in Halloween theme. Green punch with floating eyeballs, cake decorated to look like a gravestone, a huge bowl of candy, a holographic severed hand that was scurrying around on the table top. There was even a bar set up with quite an expanse of liquor that had been secured on Risa.

There was a small seating area off to one corner, a huge dance floor, tables spread out for a real meal, and a small corner set up for music.

(OOC: Just like the thread with Risa... this is a party that's 'open' from now until Sunday night at midnight! Go nuts! This IS supposed to be IC, like the Risa party, so keep that in mind!)

The dagger and the safety of Yontaya stifled any instincts that tempted him to be something other than calm. The fact they were echoes at all in his thoughts spoke to the sabotage chocolate could commit, however subtle it was.

Spock sat down, not too far but not too close as to venture any sort of accidental touch. Then he simply leaned forward, his hand outstretched, and scratched Yontaya behind her ear where she sat.

They had not spoken since the away mission briefing - if one could call it a briefing.

There were many things he could say. He considered them and discarded them, one by one.

In the end, he resolved to simply pet the cat and see what this child-Spock would do now.

There, that first opportunity to mock him -- it passed without any taunts. There was hope yet, if he remained diplomatic on his own side of this...conversation.

He continued to scratch Yontaya behind the ear, under the chin, communicating that she would get her catnip in due time.

"Have you enjoyed the festivities?"

"Enjoyment was not the goal; however, it has largely been an acceptable distraction."

Distraction. There couldn't be anything he needed a distraction for, given his lack of work. But he didn't pursue that line of questioning just yet.

"You have sampled the various desserts?" Spock allowed himself some idle curiosity as to whether they shared the same sweet tooth.

Desserts? The largely unidentifiable offerings on the buffet table.

"I sampled a piece of the pumpkin pie and found it to be acceptable."

Had that really been all he had eaten? His attention had been elsewhere.
