kirktastic: ((Captain) Pay your respects.)

It had gone out as an announcement over a month ago, sent to every padd and station by one very excited Captain. A Halloween party! Must come in costume, must have fun!

Despite the hell that had been going on for the last few days, Kirk was determined that it still would happen. After a long discussion with the ship's quartermaster, along with a small army of crewmen who wanted to help, the largest rec room was decorated.

A huge buffet table had been prepared by the galley and sat spread out, all in Halloween theme. Green punch with floating eyeballs, cake decorated to look like a gravestone, a huge bowl of candy, a holographic severed hand that was scurrying around on the table top. There was even a bar set up with quite an expanse of liquor that had been secured on Risa.

There was a small seating area off to one corner, a huge dance floor, tables spread out for a real meal, and a small corner set up for music.

(OOC: Just like the thread with Risa... this is a party that's 'open' from now until Sunday night at midnight! Go nuts! This IS supposed to be IC, like the Risa party, so keep that in mind!)

Jim laughed at the backhanded compliment. Not to mention the ridiculousness of the line itself. "I guess you'd know," he said, leaning in and lowering his eyes slyly. "You and Jim Kirk seem pretty... close. The old one, that is."

"Mm, nothing old about him." Kirk grinned, appreciating those lowered eyes with their impressively long lashes. "Can't get much closer unless him and I were bonded like Vulcans." He was definitely teasing, but wanted to play it up.

"I heard you and Leonard seem... close." Another saucy wink and an almost perverted grin.

Playful as it was, it was heartening. Jim didn't mind disagreement, but rifts were another thing altogether. They could navigate this.

"If by 'close' you mean 'taking advantage of each other like a pair of horny teenagers,' then yes," he said without shame. Bill deserved it for what he was likely doing to Jim's reputation. And social calender. "Ask Jim about his bathroom. Or the other night. Better yet, ask Lenny. He was the one who had to deal with both of us." And what a pretty picture it had been.

"...bathroom?" Kirk's lips slowly twitched up into a grin. Bill, what have you been up to? He leaned in close, playing up on their bit of fun. "I guess I will."

He brushed his fingers up the other's tie, "What does Len think about... sharing?"

Jim let his eyes seek out Leonard across the room, for effect. "Oh, you know," he said airily. "I am James T. Kirk. Or I played him on TV. It doesn't count."

He wondered whose brain would explode first if Jim was somehow inserted into the proceedings. Not that he actually assumed that Bill and Len were open to all comers, but it was an intriguing thought.

This was too much fun. Kirk grinned and wrapped his fingers in the tie, tugging Jim forward. "Well... let's see, then?" He tugged Jim again and pulled him into a light kiss.

How did Bill Shatner kiss, that differed from Jim? Obviously he'd experienced it, and, light as it was, he tried to mark some difference.

When they pulled back, he smirked. "Hmm, that's Jim Kirk all right," he said. "By which I mean fast."

"I should probably be insulted by that, Bill." Kirk teased, smirking right back.

"You probably should," Jim agreed happily. "I think your counterpart has now shared his DNA with the entire party. Are you trying to catch up?"

"Of course. Can't let him have all the fun." Kirk winked before stepping backwards. "Shouldn't keep you too long, should I?" He eyed Jim head to toe then commented, "Hope you'll keep a little bit of your schedule open for me."

No doubt Kirk had many people to see, congratulations on still being alive to content with, but Jim still felt a little loss at the break, a reminder of all that still lay between them. Of everything Kirk had been through. He returned Kirk's glance steadily, more than warmly.

"I think I can promise more than that," he said. He paused before speaking again, as if unsure whether to continue. "Don't be to hard on Jim," he said finally. "He loves you a great deal."

The final comment made Kirk turn in place and meet Jim's eyes. That fight in sickbay had changed something that he never wanted to change, the division line of each of them that had been found. "I know he does." Kirk finally said, "Doesn't stop me from caring about him, even if we disagree." His gaze dropped, "Even if its a pretty being something to disagree about."

He gave a little wave before heading into the crowd.

Jim could live with that, for now, live with the slightly sick feeling in his stomach at the thought that maybe, just maybe, this thing was too big not to divide them forever. Because there was still hope. Even so... what, ultimately, made Jim Kirk Jim Kirk, if something this fundamental could divide them?

It was a question for another time. Jim got another drink.
