kirktastic: ((Captain) Pay your respects.)

It had gone out as an announcement over a month ago, sent to every padd and station by one very excited Captain. A Halloween party! Must come in costume, must have fun!

Despite the hell that had been going on for the last few days, Kirk was determined that it still would happen. After a long discussion with the ship's quartermaster, along with a small army of crewmen who wanted to help, the largest rec room was decorated.

A huge buffet table had been prepared by the galley and sat spread out, all in Halloween theme. Green punch with floating eyeballs, cake decorated to look like a gravestone, a huge bowl of candy, a holographic severed hand that was scurrying around on the table top. There was even a bar set up with quite an expanse of liquor that had been secured on Risa.

There was a small seating area off to one corner, a huge dance floor, tables spread out for a real meal, and a small corner set up for music.

(OOC: Just like the thread with Risa... this is a party that's 'open' from now until Sunday night at midnight! Go nuts! This IS supposed to be IC, like the Risa party, so keep that in mind!)

After her first drink, Nyota decided that she needed to eat something before getting another, and politely excused herself from the bar to wander over. "Hello Pirate," she smiled as she came up beside Leah, peering around her to look at the pies. "Pumpkin pie, so many people here are going to love you."

Leah couldn't help a smile at Nyota's costume. She knew enough about ancient popular culture to place it. Catwoman - maybe not the Catwoman, but a Catwoman nonetheless, and only Nyota could successfully pull off wearing something like that.

"Lieutenant," Leah said with slight nod. "It's good to see you. So how have you been?"

OOC - Purrrrfect costume :)

She moved around to grab herself a slice, looking back to Leah with a smile at the formal title she had addressed her with.

"Nyota," she corrected with a nod. "Busy, but all in the line of duty. How have you been? We don't see enough of you."

"Eh," Leah said with a little laugh. "That's because I'm really pretty boring and don't get out much." She shook her head. "I think I might need a hobby or something."

"I think we all do," Nyota replied with a kind smile. "At least a hobby that doesn't require someone on the ship getting kidnapped or attacked."

"That would be nice...You know, I'm beginning to think this ship is cursed."

Nyota leaned in a little closer with a playful glint to her eye. "I think the same thing," she laughed, only half kidding.

"Seriously, how else can you explain everything that's happened on this ship?" Leah asked, only half-kidding herself. She let out a sigh, her eyes falling across the room to a figure wearing a mask covering half of his face. "But at least the Captain and his father are back and recovering now. You would not believe how much I was worried."

Nyota had no idea why everything that happened, happened. She wasn't a superstitious person but even the most logical of people had to wonder why it was always them. "Magic?" She offered with a laugh, looking around the room. A small smile crossed her features as she spotted the Captain. "The Phantom," she commented. "We were all worried but they're doing good."

Leah agreed. "I'm willing to accept that explaination, barring anything else. It has to be something. Could be we're just bad luck magnets."

The Captain was the last person Leah would have thought to have any interest in the story of the Phantom, but she had to admit it made an excellent costume. "I'm so glad to hear that. I can't even imagine..." she said quietly with a shake of her head. There was really nothing else she could say.

"Well, I was really only here to drop off the pies and probably won't be staying for too long, so I'll let you ahead and mingle."

Kirk still managed to surprise her, though Nyota had yet to figure out whether he simply thought it was a good costume, or he had a geniune interest in opera. She'd figure that out later. Turning her attention back to Leah, she gave the woman a smile. "Are you sure?" she questioned. "Believe me, I'll be more than happy to stand here an keep you company."

"Really, it's okay," Leah replied. "I'm only planning on staying a few minutes longer anyway."

"I'm glad you came," Nyota said, reaching forward to give her a brief hug before she pulled back. "We should see more of you." With a small wave, she snagged a piece of pie and made her way back into the throes.
