kirktastic: ((Captain) Pay your respects.)

It had gone out as an announcement over a month ago, sent to every padd and station by one very excited Captain. A Halloween party! Must come in costume, must have fun!

Despite the hell that had been going on for the last few days, Kirk was determined that it still would happen. After a long discussion with the ship's quartermaster, along with a small army of crewmen who wanted to help, the largest rec room was decorated.

A huge buffet table had been prepared by the galley and sat spread out, all in Halloween theme. Green punch with floating eyeballs, cake decorated to look like a gravestone, a huge bowl of candy, a holographic severed hand that was scurrying around on the table top. There was even a bar set up with quite an expanse of liquor that had been secured on Risa.

There was a small seating area off to one corner, a huge dance floor, tables spread out for a real meal, and a small corner set up for music.

(OOC: Just like the thread with Risa... this is a party that's 'open' from now until Sunday night at midnight! Go nuts! This IS supposed to be IC, like the Risa party, so keep that in mind!)

"It's what I do," he told her, giving her a little smile back. "I worry about people."

Override? Oh that... "Now look," Bones tilted his head at her, his wings fluttering a little as he moved. "I comm-called you twice, and there was no answer, and when I walked to your room, a strange male voice told me to go away." He lifted an eyebrow at her, and covered her fingers with his hand, and gave them a little squeeze. "I don't think I was out of line for being concerned, seeing you were very ill earlier that day. But if that bothered you, then I'm sorry."

"It was a very sweet impulse," Tina said. "And I'm not bothered at all that you were worried enough to check on me. But I'm going to give you a second to rethink what you just said and see if you can come up with any alternate explanations for that sequence of events that don't involve me being in hypothetical danger."

She raised an eyebrow of her own, waiting to see if he'd blush as much as she always did, idly swinging their joined hands back and forth a little in the space between them.

She was so young... didn't even see what sort of situation there could have been.

"Let me think..." he said playfully, swinging their hands. "Nope. My mind defaults to the worst case scenario every damn time. Sorry, Chapel, but if I think that you're in danger, I'm going to go in there."

A conversation with Sam entered his head. "Or if I had a pie I wanted to share with you. I think that's another acceptable use of the medical override, right?"

"I assure you that it was a medicinal, life-saving pie," Tina said, grinning outright now. "Honestly, the only reason I let myself into your quarters that time was that you didn't call out for me to go away. I figured you either weren't there, and I could leave the pie and go, or that you were and were in no shape to answer the door, in which case you probably needed a friend."

"But I promise I'll start asking 'are you having sex or something in there?' before opening doors if you will," she added.

She finally took a sip of the drink he'd handed her. It was good, but she'd definitely have to eat something and then switch to water for a while, soon.

Bones stared at her. "I will be mindful of asking that in the future," he said, wondering who she was planning on having sex with - even she was crazy enough to mess with the other Pike's Spock like that.

He took another drink too, releasing her hand. "So we're good now?" he asked leaning in a little, always wondering why they seemed to be at such odds with each other. It frustrated him, though realistically he knew it was most likely his fault.

"I'm good if you are," Tina said.

She felt a little shy, all of a sudden, but tried not to show it. The conversation had gone well so far, and she was hoping she could keep her occasional social weirdness at bay for a little longer. She hadn't even ogled his chest too obviously.

"Good," Bones grinned, feeling better now, except now he didn't know what to do. Sometimes they hugged it out, but he didn't think she'd be up for that, probably still upset a little.

"You have a good time tonight, okay?" Bones said, taking a step backward. "And, um, you should wear that dress more often," he added with a grin.

"I'd have to attend more parties where evening wear is appropriate," she said, returning his smile. "I'm enjoying myself so far. I hope you'll have a good time, too."
