kirktastic: ((Captain) Pay your respects.)

It had gone out as an announcement over a month ago, sent to every padd and station by one very excited Captain. A Halloween party! Must come in costume, must have fun!

Despite the hell that had been going on for the last few days, Kirk was determined that it still would happen. After a long discussion with the ship's quartermaster, along with a small army of crewmen who wanted to help, the largest rec room was decorated.

A huge buffet table had been prepared by the galley and sat spread out, all in Halloween theme. Green punch with floating eyeballs, cake decorated to look like a gravestone, a huge bowl of candy, a holographic severed hand that was scurrying around on the table top. There was even a bar set up with quite an expanse of liquor that had been secured on Risa.

There was a small seating area off to one corner, a huge dance floor, tables spread out for a real meal, and a small corner set up for music.

(OOC: Just like the thread with Risa... this is a party that's 'open' from now until Sunday night at midnight! Go nuts! This IS supposed to be IC, like the Risa party, so keep that in mind!)

Hmm. An informal greeting. Alright, Kevin could go for that; it was a party, after all. "Kevin Riley." He scanned the other man. "So, what are you?"

"Good to meet you, Mr. Riley. Or should I not let your secret identity out?" he added with a grin. As for his own costume... "I've been letting people guess what I am, since I really had no set idea what to be."

"No, I'm not trying to keep it hidden." A coy, very Bruce Wayne-like grin.

"Ah. Just kind of threw it together?"

Ephram returned the grin. "I haven't been on the ship long enough to plan ahead much, so a half-replicated, half-costume is what I came up with once I heard the rumors confirmed."

Riley nodded. "Fair enough. It works, though. The hair is an interesting touch."

"Oh, the hair isn't part of the costume. It's my natural hair...I've been white since my early 30s."

Riley nodded slowly. "Interesting. That's kind of cool."

Ephram shrugged. "I suppose it is, though it has its own drawbacks."

"Oh, yeah? Like what? And why not dye it if it's got its drawbacks?"

"People think I'm older than I am, and they disregard me as past my usefulness. And I simply haven't gotten around to dyeing it...somehow it seems too fake, as if I was clinging to something I'm not anymore. Not the best logic, I know."

He waved his hand through the air as if to dismiss the statement. "I could tell you weren't as old as your hair would indicate. 'S why I thought it was part of your costume. Not enough wrinkling and your voice is still strong. Not past your prime at all."

Ephram smiled at that. "Thank you. So many people on this ship are so young, it makes me feel older than I am."

Riley chuckled. "I know the feeling. Everyone's so much younger here."

"So much younger...here? You're one of those displaced from somewhere else?" His tone was conversational; he actually couldn't recall the name "Kevin Riley" from his briefings, though that list of names was apparently still lengthening.

He nodded. "I'm assuming there was a transporter malfunction, since I was beaming aboard my ship and I ended up here. It's been an interesting experience, though. The people here seem a rough average of about a decade younger than the people in my universe. My counterpart is just a baby." He laughed.
