kirktastic: ((Captain) Pay your respects.)

It had gone out as an announcement over a month ago, sent to every padd and station by one very excited Captain. A Halloween party! Must come in costume, must have fun!

Despite the hell that had been going on for the last few days, Kirk was determined that it still would happen. After a long discussion with the ship's quartermaster, along with a small army of crewmen who wanted to help, the largest rec room was decorated.

A huge buffet table had been prepared by the galley and sat spread out, all in Halloween theme. Green punch with floating eyeballs, cake decorated to look like a gravestone, a huge bowl of candy, a holographic severed hand that was scurrying around on the table top. There was even a bar set up with quite an expanse of liquor that had been secured on Risa.

There was a small seating area off to one corner, a huge dance floor, tables spread out for a real meal, and a small corner set up for music.

(OOC: Just like the thread with Risa... this is a party that's 'open' from now until Sunday night at midnight! Go nuts! This IS supposed to be IC, like the Risa party, so keep that in mind!)

"I had some food back at m'quarters," Joanna answered. "Figured I should have somethin' before I came and pigged out on junkfood."

"We should get together and plan a girls pajama party where we do nothing but pig out on junk food and watch bad movies." Em mused thoughtfully. "Always wanted to do that whenever I had a daughter or granddaughter." She offered Joanna a smile. "A girls night."

"Maybe...I..." Joanna stopped. She should get out. That's what this whole thing was about, anyway. And...she could always leave if that kind of thing got to be too much for her. Daddy wouldn't have wanted her to brood alone. It wasn't betraying their memories to have a bit of fun. They liked it when she was having fun. She had to keep telling herself that. "That might be a nice plan."

Em smiled at her. "Great! We should catch lunch together to plan for this ladies' party. Ooh, we could also dress up and have a full ladies night. What do you think?"

"Seems like a might a lot of trouble for stayin' on the ship and not invitin' the boys to come play," Joanna said.

"It'll be one night. And if they really need us, we're on ship anyway, so they could easily comm us." Em replied.

"Wasn't what I was thinkin' of usin' the boys for," Joanna said automatically. She missed her group. Wondered if they missed her.

"Aw, come on now, honey, didn't you just...hang with the girls?" She offered another smile. "Go shoppin'. Pedicures. Movie nights?"

"Sometimes," Joanna nodded. "Aunt Nyota and Aunt Christine used to hold ladies nights sometimes, just us."

"Well, why don't we see if we could wrangle up Christine and Nyota? We could have a little one with just you and me. Or you and Nyota and Christine, if you prefer the smaller ladies nights." Em took another bite of cake.

"Might be nice to have a smaller one at first," Joanna admitted. "Maybe Leah'll let me in the kitchen to make some brownies or something."

"All right. Just you and your aunts? Would you mind your ol' Maw-Maw along too?" She chewed on the cake. "You can make brownies?"

"You could come too," Joanna allowed. "And yeah, 'course. I'm pretty good at bakin'. Spock'd sometimes hold chemistry in the kitchen when the science labs were too volatile. Got to liking it."

"Sounds like a good time. Baked goods, good friends, I'll have to ask them about it. See if they're interested." Em smiled at her. "You know...if it'll help, you can still call me Maw-Maw."

"More like surrogate moms, honestly," Joanna said. "They helped Daddy raise me, with the girly stuff. Daddy was kinda hopeless about that.

Em chuckled. "I'd imagine he would be." She played with the fork. "You should go out there. Mingle. Relearn everyone. You might be surprised at what you'd learn. And..." She placed a hand on her arm. "My rooms are always open if you want to talk or just sit up."
