kirktastic: ((Captain) Pay your respects.)

It had gone out as an announcement over a month ago, sent to every padd and station by one very excited Captain. A Halloween party! Must come in costume, must have fun!

Despite the hell that had been going on for the last few days, Kirk was determined that it still would happen. After a long discussion with the ship's quartermaster, along with a small army of crewmen who wanted to help, the largest rec room was decorated.

A huge buffet table had been prepared by the galley and sat spread out, all in Halloween theme. Green punch with floating eyeballs, cake decorated to look like a gravestone, a huge bowl of candy, a holographic severed hand that was scurrying around on the table top. There was even a bar set up with quite an expanse of liquor that had been secured on Risa.

There was a small seating area off to one corner, a huge dance floor, tables spread out for a real meal, and a small corner set up for music.

(OOC: Just like the thread with Risa... this is a party that's 'open' from now until Sunday night at midnight! Go nuts! This IS supposed to be IC, like the Risa party, so keep that in mind!)

Jim and Bill sauntered into the party, sharing that distinctive, purposeful stride both would have denied possessing if asked. There was something almost insufferably self-satisfied about the air around them, something delighted and smug about their smiles, as if they were sharing the funniest joke either had ever told and couldn't wait for the punchline.

Which was more or less true.

Bill slipped back into the Kirkian swagger with more ease than even he had expected, wearing the uniform like a familiar skin, smirking as his eyes took in the occupants of the room, the packed table, the - was that Romulan ale?

He leaned into Jim, casually invading his personal space to murmur in his ear, "How long before someone works it out, you think?"

"Well, you're an actor, and I'm... I'm Jim Kirk," he murmured back, not even perceiving the invasion as such. "I suppose we could keep it up indefinitely."

He tugged at his tie and then dropped his hands, trying to appear more casual. Like Bill.

"That might be fun," Bill smirked. His face felt kind of permanently set to 'smirk', just at the moment, which was fine by him. Jim kind of had that effect. And if being with Jim had that effect, actually being Jim again...

Well.

Bill liked it.

"Let's fuck with their heads," he suggested. He grinned at Jim's casual demeanour, a perfect imitation of his own way of standing. He, of course, had Jim's down pat. "You look good in that suit," he added, irrelevantly.

"I look good period," he said, not sure if he was being himself or Bill in doing so but not caring much. "You're hot when you're me," he pointed out unnecessarily. "Let's do it."

"I'm always hot," said Bill. The smirk showed no signs of diminishing. "Do what, the headfuckery or each other?"

Jim looked at Bill seriously for a moment. "If we start that, we'll miss the whole party," he said, but his expression dissolved into a crinkly smile that was, for a non-actor, surprisingly more Bill-than-Jim. He looked around. "We might be too hot," he observed, with some concern. "We might be unapproachably sexy."

Bill considered this for a moment. "You may be right," he conceded. "And we wouldn't want people to feel they couldn't...talk to us. That wouldn't be very friendly."

He ran the palm of one hand idly over Jim's phaser where it was pressed to his thigh, feeling rather pleased with it.

Despite the fact that he was more or less used to looking at Bill, and had seen footage from the television program, there was something decidedly odd about watching Bill play him in person. He didn't exactly live in front of his own mirror, and despite what people thought he wasn't wholly consumed by narcissism. After all, he'd been Jim Kirk his whole life.

But this... Why should the living image of himself, caressing his phaser, make Jim feel funny? He was aware of his effect on people--lots of people, anyway--and he didn't exactly need to start being self-conscious about it.

Oh well. They were hot. Maybe he was absurdly self-loving. Didn't seem to be doing anyone any harm.

"So what do we do?" he asked. "If we mingle, we can't be amused at each other."

Bill reluctantly abandoned the phaser and grinned at Jim. "Wellll...I guess we could mingle together? All the better to confuse them with, I think. Don't you?"

He glanced around the room, eyes coming to rest on a rather familiar figure in a rather unfamiliar cowboy hat and boots. He pointed. "Hey, De's here!" He looked at Jim under his eyelashes. It had irritated Bill rather a lot while they were changing that Jim was actually at least two inches taller than him; but the replicator had proven itself able to make lifts for his shoes, which would hopefully prevent anyone else noticing this discrepancy. They had not, of course, been able to make Jim shorter, but Bill assumed that most people would not have realised that Jim was the taller, and so seeing them the same height would seem right. Surely?

"Wanna go and see if De catches on?"

Jim grinned. "Sure," he said, but his face fell slightly. "I don't want to really confuse him," he added. But he was confident they could cheer De up, at least. (http://kirktastic.livejournal.com/27230.html?thread=1047134#t1047134)

"To be honest," Bill muttered under his breath, "I give it three minutes. He's seen me switch in and out of you too many times not to catch on."
