It was morning on the Enterprise, and it came with the slow creaking of wood deck around him, swelling in the heat of the morning, the sound of waves against the sides of the ship. Definitely a damn good way to wake up.

Even better was waking up between two warm bodies, one pressed to either side of him. On one side was his cabin boy, a young buck with a foolish head but a pleasing face and tongue. On the other, his first mate, a smug, stoic, uptight, ridiculously intelligent bastard who he had finally talked into ...sharing his bed. At least in the physical sense. He'd won the argument that the captain's bed was the most comfortable place on the ship, but anything beyond that was met with a pointed look and a reach for the sword hilt.

It was a damn good life here on the Enterprise.

He was Captain James T. Kirk of the pirate ship Enterprise, the most feared name on the open seas. He ran his crew with a mixture of charm, command, and the point of his sword. He was a good swordsman, a better brawler, and decent with a flint lock.

[OOC: This will be the ONLY pirate thread everyone, no multiple posts on multiple journals! Post just in here for this! Today only!]

"De," Bill put in, reaching out to squeeze the nape of De's neck reassuringly, "it'll be fine. It'll be an adventure! Promise!"

He debated whether it would be a better idea to tell De that he had no experience fighting with any kind of weapon, himself, and was therefore in the same boat; or to point out that he had won many, many a fight on the streets of his hometown as a boy, and could therefore defend De against (hopefully) anything.

In the end, he just repeated, "It'll be fine. Look, we're all actors! We'll just pretend it's acting, right?"

"An adventure. An adventure, Bill? I don't want that kind of adventure for real! Acting it, yes of course that's fine, but it's different when it's real - yes, we could pretend, but we could get hurt, Bill, actually hurt!"

"De!" Bill took hold of De by the jaw and turned his face to look at him properly. "All right, not an adventure, but De, it's happening, now. There's nothing we can do about it except find ways to make it better, all right?"

"Bill's right, we can only deal with this as it comes," Leonard agreed.

He shot a concerned look at Bill though, hoping his friend wouldn't overreach himself if it came down to it. His confidence generally stood him in good stead, but sometimes it was a little out of place.

DeForest breathed in deeply several times, trying to calm himself down. His two friends were right. They were in this situation, there was nothing they could do but deal with went happened as it happened. He breathed in again, calming deep breathes, and looked into Bill's eyes to steady himself.

"Alright. We'll be alright. It'll be fine," he recited, trying to reassure himself with his words. Maybe if he said them enough it would be true, but the fact remained that he was trapped on a ship, in the middle of the ocean, and a ship with no colours (and that couldn't be good, he thought, his mind flashing back to the tales he had heard back in port) heading towards them...and that fact really, really, really worried him.
