Communication to All

Your oh so lovely Captain has reserved an entire bar for our use for our final night on Risa! You can get the position of it from the attached file. Nice little place, tucked up on the beach and right up against the waterline, full bar with everything you can imagine! I'll be seeing you all around sunset!

[OOC: This thread can run as long as we need it too, far past the 'end' of Risa Saturday night. Feel free to post anywhere, there's no order, who gives a damn about how the thread looks, just HAVE FUN!]

Jim laughed, drinking more slowly. He worried about Bones, though through the bond it would only have manifested as gentle affection and friendly concern. "We'd have been quite the pair," he said.

He figured Bones probably didn't want to hear about the other night; if he did, he'd ask, but it wasn't the sort of thing one brought up. Well, usually.

By this time, considering what he'd been drinking all night, McCoy was feeling decidedly...well, 'light-headed' would be the polite term for it. Contrary to popular opinion, this wasn't a regular past-time of his (he was, after all, a doctor and a professional first and foremost, and besides, early morning shifts with a hangover were not fun), but he did have a habit of perhaps overdoing it a little when a chance like this arose.

"We would've been. They're quite the pair too, the other two. Good couple, suit each other." He mused half to himself, some of the words slurring slightly. "Deserve each other."

Jim grinned, bumping McCoy's shoulder a little. "That they do," he said. "You think that's curious, at all? The other us... hooking up like that?"

"Surprisin', I'll say that." He absently dwelled for a moment on whether, if he and Jim had been in the same situation, things might've played out differently or not. Huh. "Kinda makes you wonder, doesn't it..."

"Can't say it hasn't crossed my mind," Jim said, his eyes twinkling familiarly. Perhaps with especial familiarity, considering what they'd been through. "Can't say I know what the future will bring, either."

"Ah, who does, Jim, who does?" McCoy proclaimed somewhat loudly, attempting to swirl the contents of his glass and spilling a good amount of it onto the bar. Damn. He blotted at it half-heartedly with his sleeve. "Things change, eh? 'S no predictin' it." He met Jim's gaze with his own (slightly unfocused) one. "Hope it'll be for the better, though."

[[OOC - I've not bothered to make the timing make sense with all of this, but we're collecting Bones (http://kirktastic.livejournal.com/17629.html?thread=787421#t787421), if he's around to be collected.]]

"Always," he said softly. "If I have anything to say about it." He squeezed Bones' arm. For some reason, other people getting drunk sometimes made him feel maudlin. "What do you want, Bones?" he asked suddenly. "If you could have anything..."

[[OOC - Thanks for the heads-up!]]

"Anything? Gives me a pretty big choice." He smirked lopsidedly before putting his mind to the question. "I dunno...I guess...like to get a place back in Georgia some time, y'know. When 'm tired of space. Somewhere quiet, outta the way. Suit me nice, I reckon." A man of simple tastes indeed. Given the choice of anything, he just wanted to go back home one day. "What about you?"

Jim smiled, both at the increased Southern drawl in Bones' voice and the image he painted. It did suit him. But the question, turned back upon him, was complicated. He'd only ever wanted one thing, and that thing encompassed wanting everything. He was a starship captain. He'd never wanted to be anything else, couldn't imagine being anything else, and he knew that one day--hopefully not any day soon--he would need to find something else to be.

He looked down at his glass, his voice soft and his smile rueful. "I want my ship back," he said. "Forever. I want... what I have. I want to not have to figure out what else I might want."

Len had told him he'd end up getting pushed into a desk job. He couldn't imagine it, rejected it as their fiction going off the rails of his future reality, but... What if it were true?

"You won't have to for a good long time yet." He knew it would be much harder for Jim to leave than it would be for him - perhaps much harder than it would be for anyone. Jim lived for the Enterprise, after all. "We'll get her back soon, and y'know Scotty's gonna be keepin' her outta trouble for you 'till then. Then things'll just keep on goin' like they used to, for years.

"After that..." He shrugged slightly, watching Jim. "I know it doesn't seem very likely now, but...maybe by then you might've found something you could stand givin' her up for." Jim stuck in a desk-job probably wouldn't happen, but he had years in which to find a secondary passion that could one day sustain him beyond his ship.

Jim looked up, smiling, himself once more. His doubts were not extinguished, just pushed to the back of his mind. "I'm sure you're right," he said. "Let's hope we both get what we want. We're not asking for much, really, are we?"

"We're not. Don't see why we shouldn't get it either - damn well done enough to deserve it." They'd had their share of going to Hell and back, and no doubt there'd be plenty more times like that to come. They should at least be able to expect a little personal indulgence at the end of it all.

"And we're still so young and pretty," Jim reflected airily, looping an arm around Bones' shoulders for a moment. They'd do even more, in the years to come.

McCoy sniggered.

"You'll have to be young 'n' pretty enough for the both of us, 'm afraid. Sure you can handle that?" As if he had to ask.

"Well I can," he said, "but with those baby blues, I don't have to."
