Communication to All

Your oh so lovely Captain has reserved an entire bar for our use for our final night on Risa! You can get the position of it from the attached file. Nice little place, tucked up on the beach and right up against the waterline, full bar with everything you can imagine! I'll be seeing you all around sunset!

[OOC: This thread can run as long as we need it too, far past the 'end' of Risa Saturday night. Feel free to post anywhere, there's no order, who gives a damn about how the thread looks, just HAVE FUN!]

Kirk schooled his face into a grin and walked over, looking over to his counterpart. "Hey, Jim!" He said with a laugh, "Didn't take you long to find the karaoke machine."

"No," he said, "but I was hoping if I got it in early, it'd increase my chances of getting laid."

He laughed as he said this, as if to say, "why would I need help getting laid? I have too many chances as it is."

...Man, try the opposite. Seriously. "Increase your chances!?" He laughed, "All you need to do is smile at everyone in the room and the chances are increased." He grinned with that.

Jim shrugged. "You know it, and I know it, but I like music, you know. I like to make a contribution. What did you think?"

He gazed at the other Jim with open, joyful curiosity.

Thank whoever that he was so good at lying, "I dunno if that was your song, but it was good." He grinned, keeping himself easy, "But I love 20th and 21st century music."

"Me too," Jim said happily. "See, that performance, it was a commentary on the many facets of our lives, out in space; the layers we hide from each other under the strain of command. I could sing it, sure, but this way emphasizes the poetry of it, you see?" He beamed, totally secure. "Also, people don't know what hit 'em."

Riley tried not to cringe as he listened to his Captain's rendering of Rocket Man.

When the song was over, he strolled over to where his captain stood with the other Kirk. "James T. Kirk, I thought you said you could sing."

Jim blinked.

"I can," he said.

Of course it would make both Jims look to Riley. The person in front of him he was familiar and it annoyed him he couldn't remember who it was. He glanced to Jim, thinking, I sure as hell never said that because I know I can't...

Oh hell. He caught Riley's gaze and made a discrete 'cut it!' gesture.

"Oh, right," Jim said belatedly. "Jim, this is Lieutenant Riley, from my universe. Riley, this is Captain Kirk. But you probably knew that."

"Captain Kirk," Riley nodded a polite greeting to the other Kirk. He returned his attention to the Kirk of his timeline.

"And forgive me for saying this, but that wasn't singing. It was...talking with style." Another 20th century movie reference that probably went right over their heads. "Ah, forget it. I'll show you some real singing." He began looking through the selection for the perfect song. "Rock the Casbah" by The Clash. Excellent.

Jim beamed at Riley. "That's exactly what I was going for," he enthused. "Anyone can just... get up and sing." Jim had an okay singing voice. But it didn't add any depth to the pieces.

He'd heard Riley sing before, however, and frowned slightly. "You're not feeling artificially uninhibited in any way, are you?"

[[OOC - LOL. Jim can't get movie references I don't. ;) ]]

"Ah. Well, I guess you succeeded, then." How strange.

"Don't worry," Riley said with a smug grin. "I don't sing nearly so bad when I'm able to control my impulses."

He proceeded to ham it up for a rendition of "Rock the Casbah," faux British accent and everything.

[[OOC: "That wasn't flying; that was falling with style!" -Toy Story. :P
On a somewhat related note, Rocket Man came on at work yesterday. And I started thinking of Shatner's version. And I laughed.]]

Jim found this far more agreeable than when Riley had taken over Engineering with Irish songs, and clapped enthusiastically when he was done. No harm done, right?

"Good choice," he said when Riley stepped off the little stage. "I wonder why everyone's singing ancient Earth pop music."

[[OOC - Oh, okay. I have seen that. But didn't catch it. :)

And awesome. Haha. You know, even though "Common People" (the original) is one of my favorite songs, Shatner's version is gaining ground on it. I mean I actually love it.]]

"Thank you," Riley beamed as he stepped off the stage. "I know that I, for one, have an affinity for old Earth culture. Such simpler times, yet they still had a lot to offer.

[[OOC: LOL nice. :P]]

Jim nodded. "It's as important to appreciate the past as to broaden one's horizons," he said.
