Communication to All

Your oh so lovely Captain has reserved an entire bar for our use for our final night on Risa! You can get the position of it from the attached file. Nice little place, tucked up on the beach and right up against the waterline, full bar with everything you can imagine! I'll be seeing you all around sunset!

[OOC: This thread can run as long as we need it too, far past the 'end' of Risa Saturday night. Feel free to post anywhere, there's no order, who gives a damn about how the thread looks, just HAVE FUN!]

When Kirk finally caught sight of Uhura, well, to use the old expression, she took his breath away. Her hair was down, silken and dark, and the grey dress she was wearing did everything for her. He grinned slowly, taking just a moment to check her out from a distance before making his way over to her.

"Nyota," He tried her first name on his tongue, loved the taste of it, and hoped she wouldn't get upset for it. He gave her a warm, brilliant smile, partly flirting as just was his nature and partly an affection that came from working with her and having her on his crew. "You look absolutely stunning."

Hearing the familiar sound of her name on a familiar voice, Nyota turned, fixing the Captain with a slow smirk and a raised brow. "James," she replied, for if he was going to insist on using her first name, she would use his. To his credit, he rarely used it, and in a moment of affection towards him she allowed it to slide.

She leant back against the bar, taking a moment to appraise him. He looked good as usual, the hue of his shirt making his eyes seem an even brighter blue than normal. Still, just because she appreciated his appearance, didn't mean she was going to tell him that. "I'm surprised." she commented with a grin after a moment, straightening up. "I hear you've managed to stay out of sickbay for the entire week."

Oh, he loved when she called him that, and the fact there was no death glare for having called her by her first name warmed him even more. Her comment made him laugh, a grin spreading over his face and making his eyes crinkle up. "Imagine that, I was a good boy all week. I figured even Bones needed a vacation." He focused those eyes right to hers, the grin remaining.

"How did your shore leave go?" He asked in a conversational tone that had an honest curiosity in it. "I heard from Spock that the two of you went and had dinner."

"See, you're learning." she retorted with her best instructor voice, though she said it with a fond smile. Even she had to admit he wasn't the same brash Cadet that had annoyed her for three years. The gold of a Command shirt didn't just do wonders for his eyes it seemed.

She glanced around the bar, shooting a warm grin to some of her friends and making a mental note to find them later in the night, before her attention and gaze fell back to his baby blues. "We did. It was," she paused for a moment, seeking out the right word. "Relaxing. I went climbing. And what about you? How on earth did you manage to stay out of trouble?"

"Well, you can thank Bones for most of that." His eyes briefly left hers to look around the area, catching Bones talking with his father. He couldn't help a tiny smile on his lips before he looked back. "I wouldn't have been in the Academy past my first year if it wasn't for him doing the same thing then."

He chuckled slightly, "Well, at least trying to help me then." There was an added warmth to his voice when he spoke of his friend.

"I'm glad to hear you had a good time. Relaxing is what everyone was supposed to do, whether they did it or not."

Noting the smile that was so familiar to the one Leo had worn earlier, Nyota followed his gaze and wasn't at all surprised to see the doctor. "So I hear. Thank god for doctors." she said with a playful edge as she faced him again.

"Well, if anything I'd say that this shore leave was... an eyeopener for some. Interesting." She took a cursory glance around the room, unable to help herself from pausing on certain people and reading their body language. "But then again I expected no less from the crew of James T. Kirk."

There was a glowing pride in his next words, "..They're an amazing group. We're all so new to each other but already... I can see we're gonna do great things together." He looked around the room, that pride in his expression. His crew, like his ship, was first in his affections always - just part of being a captain. Bones was first in a completely different sense.

Nyota was surprised - but pleasantly so - to find herself looking at him with slight pride and a lot more respect than she would have thought possible a year ago. "You really love the Enterprise." It wasn't so much a question but a statement; it was painfully obvious just how well Captaincy suited him. People like Kirk weren't born to stay on earth, she mused, raising her glass to her lips. "Clearly we work well together. I couldn't imagine serving on any other ship, Captain."

"...I do." He couldn't say those words aloud, but he felt it. The Enterprise was the most beautiful thing in the world, the crew his bones and strength. Without them, she could not fly. Without him, the crew had no order. Without the Enterprise, he wasn't a captain. They were a true and solid being, one and whole.

Kirk looked to her and gave a warm smile that wasn't flirting, not trying to be charming just... real. "We do." He tipped his drink to her in a silent cheers, "That means the world to me."

The Enterprise had been her dream too, from the moment she saw its bare bones in the shipyard where she had, coincidentally, met Kirk. If she believed in fate, she would have said that this was where they supposed to be, and if she were completely honest with herself she couldn't imagine serving under anyone else. She raised her glass in return, granting him with a bright and simple smile of her own.

"I like you far more when you're just being yourself." she commented lightly, taking a sip of her drink. "You should try it more often."

"I'm always being me." Kirk said with a chuckle, tilting his head. "Just different parts of me... sometimes parts that people don't want to see." People, he knew, usually took him at face value. The sexahol, the flirt, the brave captain.

"You have a beautiful smile." He said quietly, meaning it.

"I mean like this." Nyota continued, tilting her head to regard him with a softer look. "You seem... comfortable." She nodded, satisfied with her choice of words. It was as if each aspect of his personality was finally finding a way to co-exist, instead of just making sporadic appearances. A man who was a definite improvement from the boy she had met.

She studied him carefully for a moment, a rebuff on the tip of her tongue for his compliment. Instead she simply accepted it with another smile of thanks, sensing that he was being genuine. "I must have had more to drink than I thought," she couldn't help but tease. "You're almost charming."

That brought up a hurt look on his face and he pouted just slightly, "Why Nyota, I'm hurt. Almost? I must be doing it wrong." The pout didn't last and he smiled instead.

"I am comfortable, like this. Not that I'm not comfortable up on the ship, but here... it's a little different, I suppose. I'm not Captain Kirk here. I'm just.. Jim."

Nyota rolled her eyes good naturedly at his pout, shaking her head. "Oh I'm sure you'll get over it, Captain." There was her playful sarcasm, complete with an amused raise of her brow.

"You'll always be our Captain." she added, her tone softening once more. "I think you were born for that role, it's always going to be yours." She doubted that anyone could take that away from him, and if they did his crew would make sure they paid for it. "But I meant in yourself. Like you're maturing. It suits you James."

"Thanks." He said with that same warm smile. "Means a lot, coming from you, specially from you." Considering where they started off, the two of them. "I want to say no, it isn't what I was born for, but I think I'd be lying. ...I mean..." He gestured a little, "Because of... when you think of my Dad and all..."

Finally he just stopped and laughed a little, "Nevermind."

Her gaze wandered over to where George was speaking with Leonard, watching him for a moment. It was impossible to deny the similarities between father and son; they seemed one and the same at times. Yet they were also so different on occasion it made her wonder how anyone could confuse him. "He's not why you're meant to be a Captain." Nyota said, looking back to Kirk. "You just... fit." She wasn't sure what she had meant, and gave a small shrug of her shoulder, brushing the hair back behind her ear.

"So Captain," she brightened. "Are you going to be gracing us with a song?"

Kirk winced a little, laughing gently. "Trust me when I say this... I don't think you want me to sing." He looked highly amused, "I'm just not a singer unless I'm in the shower, maybe."

He hesitated, then asked, "I've heard you have a lovely voice though.. are you gonna sing?"

"Well now I'm just curious to see how bad you are." she retorted with a grin. "I may have finally found something James Tiberius Kirk cannot do."

Giving the stage a glance, she shrugged again. Words were what she knew, what she was good at, whether they were being spoken or sung. And she hadn't done so since the Academy. "When I think of something good to sing, I'll let you know."

"Hey, hey now! Difference between 'can and can't do' and forcing an audience to listen to it!" A bark of laughter, shaking his head, "Alright, how about this." He smirked, "You convince Bones to sing? And I'll sing."

Nyota leaned in across the bar, tilting her head close to his, her eyes lit up with a devious smirk. "You have yourself a deal." she informed him, raising her glass in agreement.

Kirk, knowing Bones would never agree to sing, felt good in raising his glass up in return, "Deal, beautiful." He blew her a kiss and laughed, "I'll be looking forward to hearing your voice."

Finishing what was left in her glass, Nyota placed the glass on the counter and shook her head at the bartender. "Ditto, sir." she laughed, giving him a playful wave over her shoulder as she made her way outside for some air.
