"The cute shit - all those grins and all that crap he tosses around, smiling at people? Immune." Bones shook his head, looking back one more time at Jim. "Not remotely close to what I love about him," he answered without thinking.

He sighed, tilting his head at George. "So no one's going back to Earth, not yet." Hmmmm. "I'm glad for you, George." Still lots he wanted to talk about, but not here. Monday would be soon enough to pull and poke at the threads of that trio.

"That's good to hear," George smiled. "IF you just want the image and not the reality...Trust me. It's not a good ride at all." His expression darkens at that and stays dark.

"Okay, I'm gonna sound really horrible for a minute here...but I think, even as clingy as I am...Winnie and Chris are going to have it harder when it's time for us three to separate again. Desptie everything...I was expecting to be on my own for large portions of time without them. Mind, plan was I'd be raising the boys but..."

Bones wouldn't have minded if Jim chucked the whole image out the window and left it there, but his charisma was a lot of what made Jim Jim, so he left that alone...

"You could return back with them, George. People would understand you wanting to go home," he said quietly, really meaning 'Jim would understand. He wouldn't like it but he'd understand.'

"No, I can't," George said gently shaking his head. "I've seen all of them, and...Chris can arrange his schedule, so he has time to intercept us at leaves, Winnie's gonna be on another ship, if I've any guess, and, Jim needs me, I think. Maybe, next five year tour, or whenever, I might kick off, but..."

"Okay," he nodded, one question filed away and nodded, then smiled, sighing. I'm gonna admit to you, I'm really glad you feel that way."

"I wish Win could be assigned to the Enterprise on a purely selfish level but...personally, professionally, I'm far better off on the Enterprise," George had thought a lot about this. "Personally, I'd miss out on even more time with Jim if I got off it, and I hate that idea. Hate losing Win too...but..."

"And professionally? They'd stick me with a Captainship as soon as a new ship came off hte yard, and I have twenty five years of technology, history, discoveries to learn before I'm remotely ready for that."

"Then I know you'll be welcomed with open arms on board," he said with an honest grin. "And, personally, I don't mind telling you that Jim's gonna be thrilled you're staying."

"I told him I would," George rolled his eyes lightly. "He's gonna have to kick me out the airlock to get me off the ship."

"Circumstances changed recently," Bones replied, glancing at Chris and Winnie. "You might have reevaluated your position."

"Yeah, they have a bit," George said. "But...not really in the way you're talking about. We have a lot of talking to do, a lot to get through but..." He shook his head. Even when he tried not to choose he still had to make choices. "Chris'll smooth things along for us."

Slowly making his way through the masses, Kirk glanced over to where his father and Bones were talking. What are they talking about... I have a feeling it's me. That brought a tiny smile to his lips, despite the fact that there was a lot going on that could have made everything very bad very quickly.

Cause that's what he does, fixes things for you, Bones replied, lifting an eyebrow at George. They were still acting as if they were all twenty-six. About to say more about it, he saw Jim heading their way. "Monday morning, yes? Better place to talk about all this."

When Jim was close enough, Bones reached out and touched his shoulder without thinking. "Want something from the bar?"

"Hey," Kirk said warmly, not seeming to mind in the least about the touch, "I probably should start on having something, right?" He grinned broadly, feeling great. That charm... Bones might have lied a tiny, little bit to George - Jim was fucking hot when he smiled like that, particularly when that look was directed at him. A strong urge inside him wanted to pull Jim next to him, wrap his arms around him here, in front of everyone, stare the entire bar down and tell them that this one was his...

But that wasn't part of their deal, he thought, reaching around and waving the bartender over again. Jim was going home with him, he reminded himself, no matter what else happened tonight. Handing him his drink, Bones caught his eye and held it a bit longer than really needed. "Your dad and I were talking about how much catching up he's gonna need to work on a starship," he lied blandly.

"Yea?" Kirk murmured, watching Bones with a smile on his lips. He took a slow gulp of his drink, feeling it burn all the way down and preferring it that way. There was something dark in Bones' gaze; he wondered what it was. "Yea, he's gonna need to work at it but he's already fitting in."

A pause, then he tilted his head, "...Does that mean... he's planning to stay?" That wasn't hope in his voice. He couldn't let himself hope that.

"Sure sounds like it," Bones said, watching Jim and George next to each other. They did need each other, for a little while at least. This was good. "Provided he doesn't get attacked by anymore flowers, that is..." joked Bones, smirking as he took another sip.

The look that came over Kirk's face was a childish joy. His eyes lit up and his smile lit up the world. "Really?" He looked to his father, "..You sure, Dad?"

"Professionally, it's the best choice," George said seriously, then crinkled into a smile. "And personally? I wouldn't miss it, s'long as you're willing to have your old man jostling your elbows."

He leaned over and squeezed Jim's shoulder. "I think we've made a pretty tight team so far."

"..Wouldn't want you anywhere else, Dad." Kirk said quietly, watching his father. "Long as you don't go around getting killed by plants anymore."

Bones snorted. "Flowers. We'll try and keep you safe from them," he said, as his eyes filled with mirth until he saw Jim's face.

"Hey," he said, looking at Jim, touching his shoulder. "You alright?"

A blink, and Kirk looked to his friend. "Yea, course I am. Why wouldn't I be?" A grin came to his face, "Whole crew's here, having fun.. can't beat it."

A little glare at George, then he turned back to Jim, his face softening slightly. "Having fun?" he asked, keeping the hand not holding his drink firmly at his side. "Looks like the entire ship is here."
