Communication to All

Your oh so lovely Captain has reserved an entire bar for our use for our final night on Risa! You can get the position of it from the attached file. Nice little place, tucked up on the beach and right up against the waterline, full bar with everything you can imagine! I'll be seeing you all around sunset!

[OOC: This thread can run as long as we need it too, far past the 'end' of Risa Saturday night. Feel free to post anywhere, there's no order, who gives a damn about how the thread looks, just HAVE FUN!]

"Not all," Nyota began with a sly smirk, hopping onto her own chair. "Just a hell of a lot of it. But I'll remember that crazy comment next time you need something translated, doctor."

She fell silent for a moment, taking careful sips from her drink before she graced him with an almost secretive look. "All the way to the top." she nodded. "And before you start, I didn't get any injuries."

"Of course you didn't," he replied, smiling, raising his glass as she mentioned her climb. "Nyota, there are few people on board whom I trust are not going to make more work for me, and you are one of them."

"All the way to the top. Must have been gorgeous up there," he mused. He and Jim spent some time in the mountains, but not as high as that monster she climbed. "You go alone?" he wondered casually, but his eyes were a little more concerned.

She returned the gesture, raising her own glass as she allowed herself a moment of pride once more at her achievement. "I prefer to remain as far away from your hypos as possible." she teased.

She made relatively quick work of the rest of her drink, placing the glass back on the counter and allowing the bartender to refill it. "It was." Her voice took on a breathier tone she normally reserved for her linguistic geek outs. "It's so gorgeous out there. You could see for miles, and the forest I trekked through was... well, like home. But I have plenty of pictures." She gave a small nod at his question, giving a nonchalant shrug of her shoulders. "It was just something I had to do. And besides," she brightened up once again. "I didn't want to drag any of the girls away from shopping to go climb a rock."

"Neither one of those sounds like vacation time to me," he grinned. pretending to shudder. "But I'll take your word for it on how pretty it was."

"You don't ever talk about home," he said, thinking aloud. "You miss it, where you're from?"

"You'd be a terrible woman Leo," Nyota laughed with a shake of her head. Her gaze dropped down to her drink, and she idly twisted the brightly colored straw around the glass. "I miss it all the time." she nodded, looking back up at him with another cautious smile. "But it seems kind of pointless to dwell on it. Especially when there's so much out here to see."

McCoy looked hurt at that remark. "Yeah," he said, his forehead furrowed, then laughing at the end. "I'd be a horrid woman. Leave it to you."

There was such a sadness in her eyes. "Hey," he said, looking at her. "Temm me about it. What's at home you miss. The place or the people?"

"I'm fine!" Nyota rushed to assure him, noting that look in his eye like he was turning back into the doctor and she was the patient. "Really. You're supposed to be having fun." She gave his side a small nudge with her elbow.

He looked down at her, then chuckled. "Peaches," he said, looking at his drink. "Raindrops." Bones took another drink, finishing the amber liquid in his glass, shaking his head at the bartender. "Looking up and seeing the moon, especially when it was full. I miss those things. A lot," he admitted, playing with the bits of ice left in his glass. "I figure it's okay to think about them once in a while - why not sitting here in a bar, millions of miles away?"

She listened to him, her careful smile faltering for a brief moment before she ducked her gaze back to her drink. "Oo the rain, I definitely miss that." Odd considering the amount of times she had cursed getting caught out in an unexpected storm. But when the option of having it was taken away, it became all too clear just how much she enjoyed it - even the simple pleasure of complaning about it. "It's just... hard. To think about home sometimes. So I don't."

"Yeah," he nodded. For a little bit he allowed himself to think about his daughter, living a universe away. "I" - he started, then stopped. "It's hard when they're so far away. I mean, we can tell ourselves that this is important work, that it means something to be doing this - but it's still hard, isn't it? Being away from them?"

He shrugged, as if it weren't a big deal. "I admit, its nice knowing someone else feels like that," he said to her, not exactly sad, but more... resigned.

Laying a gentle hand on his forearm, Nyota gave him what she hoped was a comforting smile. "Yeah," she said quietly. "It is." After a moment she shrugged and picked up her drink, taking a slow sip before speaking again. "I missed my mom's birthday. And I tell myself that she understands, that she encouraged this, but it still hurts that I can't be there."

She clinked her glass against his empty one. "But at least they're safe on Earth. Not stuck in space with 'disease and danger'. Won't catch them with a case of the Bajoran flu." she teased.

"I missed my daughter's birthday." Another shrug, as if it hadn't hurt much. "She's in the best place for her, I know that. Good home, taken care of. Still, miss it all, everything I'm missing."

Her last words made him laugh. "You people and your mockery of how dirty space is, it's gonna catch up with you." He looked around, seeing people starting to get on stage and sing. Ouch. "Okay, that's my cue to head outside. I'll catch you later," he told her, leaning in for another hug.

Nyota looked at him silently for a moment, with an expression somewhere between sympathy and understanding. But she decided to simply give his hand a brief squeeze, knowing how much he missed her. She couldn't imagine having to do the same, her family was bad enough and they were old enough to understand.

"I actually listen to you so I'm a picture of perfect health." she laughed, head tilting to watch as a few people began to enjoy the karaoke. "A few more drinks and you'll be up there," she warned with a devious smirk, returning the embrace. "Get out now, while you still have a chance."

"Not likely," he answered, grabbing a fresh drink before heading outside.
