kirktastic: ((Captain) Pay your respects.)

[OOC: Happening sometime after the talk with Mr. Spock, but happening at the same time for time's sake. XD]

Kirk waited just outside of the hallway of the brig, talking with the guard on watch quietly. He didn't want the people down in the brig proper to know he was there. They had sound and cameras ready to go, so Kirk could listen in and watch on each cell, its occupant, and who they were talking to.

This was not something he was looking forward to, but he had information to work with now. Information against at least one very dangerous person, and one possibly less so.

Private Communication to Commander Spock
I need you to come down to the brig and talk with the other Pike, like we discussed. Don't look at me, don't talk to me, just go in like you were slipping down there to talk to him. The guards already know and will leave when you dismiss them with the same protest as last time. Don't let him know I'm watching what's happening. I want to see what's going to happen.

I need you to talk to Marlena as well. Probably should talk to her first, actually.

He was not so sure that the force-field entirely was making an odd sensation run up from his hands to his shoulders, and subsequently to crawl down his spine. Illogical--excitement? If he said it aloud, that might make it true.

"That you are to be assassinated by James Kirk, who will subsequently take captaincy of the Enterprise. Then--" He hoped Jim would not burst in here and question him for what he was about to say. "--after a time, I will dispose of him, and assume the title of Captain myself."

Brows rose in surprise, then dropped into a thoughtful look. Pike remained silent, hands together in front of him, before he commented quietly, "That may have already happened. There was no disturbance recorded before or just before I beamed up to the ship."

He actually smirked, "Sabotage. In a way those that supported me could not fault him for. Quite a brilliant move, Kirk." His tone suggesting talking to the not-present version of Kirk from his own universe.

"The ship would be better in your hands. He is... a foolish brat." Pike commented offhandedly, as if Spock taking out Kirk would not be a surprise.

Kirk, from the guard station, scowled at Spock's words. In another universe, Spock really did turn traitor to him and got rid of him. It sent a shiver up his spine, thinking about the conversation in his quarters, the feeling of fear/digust/traitor from Spock's mind, and hoped like fuck it wasn't a sign of things to come.

Did he learn all of that from Marlena? Well, he was right if he did. She did open up to him. Hope she will when he goes to talk to her.

"I am sure he learns quickly, even in your universe." The force-field kept him from lingering further into the room. But with Jim watching, meaning he had technically nothing to fear, he could reach over and disable it, to step into the non-privacy of the cell. "Though, I am curious as to how you would be so easily eliminated. Transporter sabotage is difficult to conceal, especially if only given a short time to create it. I still maintain my sentiments from our last talk, about my alternate--unless you offended him, in some way." It was a half-question, inviting him to reveal the circumstances surrounding his unfortunate transport.

Pike's eyes closed entirely, the leather-encased hands tightening their grip on each other. "Mr. Scott." He said quietly. "Is completely loyal to the ship and no one else. He is easily bought or swayed." The one man completely capable of hiding such sabotage. He had done similar things as well in the past. The only reason he had allowed the engineering onto his ship with such a lack of loyalties was the man's incredible expertise.

Once again, another sign that there were universal constants across dimensions. It did not trouble him any less because of this, but, privately, he tucked it away for future reference.

"...I have also obtained one of your universe's devices, though it is still quite unlike yours in form, though not function." He had it at his belt, on the opposite hip from the phaser, hidden over by a black extension of the belt he had personally crafted.

Obtained another... so then his thoughts were accurate. The woman they would not allow near him was also from his dimension. "From your tone, you haven't turned it over to your Captain." Not question, not statement.

There's more he's hiding from me! Kirk thought almost angrily. What the fuck, Spock? Why did you hide this too?! ...And what device are you even talking about?! His fingers clenched at his side, eyes narrowing.

From: [identity profile] cso-spock.livejournal.com
"There is no point in revealing something to him that I cannot explain. He has more important tasks to concern himself with." Spock reached over the side of the cell, and gently pressed the red button with one finger. The force-field dropped, and the tingle crawling over his skin mostly subsided. "I would like if you could explain the construction of your set, and why you do not use the standard model, instead." Nothing to fear, he told himself as he calmed his pounding heart: Jim was watching, and he had a phaser and an agonizer at his belt. "Without practical demonstrations."

The final comment made him smirk, flexing his fingers. "The construction of my set." He repeated, looking amused about the whole situation. "A man has to keep his secrets, as you well know." Would be all he said about their making.

He remained seated, the cat waiting for its prey to move closer before striking. He locked his gaze to Spock's. "Who said I don't have a standard model?" Skipping the one question completely.

Spock reminded himself that he should never underestimate this man's ability to lure him into annoyance or physical intimidation (which wouldn't work anyway).

Now, there was nothing stopped him from stepping into the cell, but he kept close to the doorway. Not that distance would likely stop the other. "The one I have in my possession is etched with a serial number and markings that indicate it is assigned equipment for all of your officers." It had been chilling to read 'Terran Empire' under his close examination. "Your gloves have no such identification that would indicate they are part of a larger collection." He would know.

Or, of course, I could simply have more then one. Spock, how foolish this younger counterpart is.

Pike lifted a hand, flexing the glove slowly. "A Vulcan, as you well know, is three times stronger then a man. When one, or any person, gets close enough to touch me, I decided on my own advantage."

From: [identity profile] cso-spock.livejournal.com
His eyes were drawn to those fingers, almost beckoned forward by the motion. But Pike's own words explained why he couldn't step forward, yet. "But you are able to control its activation." Of all the places where he did not feel uncomfortable discussing what had happened, it was this origin point. Unsurprising. "Whereas the standard only has a simple switch and pressure mechanism."

"They're something I designed, you're right in that guess." He stated calmly, looking towards Spock. His fingers curled back into a fist, as if gesturing for the other to come closer.

From: [identity profile] cso-spock.livejournal.com
"If you will not reveal more specifications to me, sir," Spock took a small step closer, but not without his hand shifting to rest on the phaser at his hip. "I will find a way to relieve you of them, for my own study. A man may have his secrets, but you will derive no benefit from them, dead to your universe and almost the same in this one." There, again, his morals were faltering in the presence of this man.

"And you will not learn what you wish if you took them from me." Pike said calmly in return, as if the threat meant nothing to him. When it came to this particular threat, it didn't. But his words, specifically chosen, did have a clue in them.

"You are the one to decide whether I must confiscate them." Carefully sifting the annoyance out of his voice. He did not have the patience of his elder selves, certainly not in light of their previous experience with each other, but the faint sense of Jim watching kept him somewhat calm. "It would waste less of our time if you would only tell me."

"...they are a technology that I doubt exists within your Federation." The Pike kept his tone calm as he slowly removed one glove, displaying the broad hand beneath. "Take from a culture beyond even our reaches, trained to my thoughts and bodily reactions, and I simply applied it to our normal devices before the ship was destroyed."

From: [identity profile] cso-spock.livejournal.com
It was a hand whose strength he knew far too well--with the brief flicker of a memory, he could feel the tug on his hair, a grip on his throat. But he was still a scientist at heart; he wanted to lurch forward, examine this all in detail--anything to get more information. But Spock stood still where he was. "Must you always destroy the remnants of other species?"

Date: 2009-08-07 06:44 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] iron-command.livejournal.com
"Actually," Pike's tone turned to something amused, "They decided the Empire looked like a potential interest in conquering. That we were somehow weaker then the Klingons or Cardassians. It was a scout ship that responded entirely to their thoughts." He turned the glove so the inside of it could be neatly seen by the man in front of him. It was glowing, very faintly, deep inside, unseen through the thick leather.

From: [identity profile] cso-spock.livejournal.com
Spock took one--two--steps closer, to get a better look at this glow. The hand still remained on the phaser, and with each step closer to the man the grip became more secure over it. "Did you share your knowledge of this technology with your science department?" Though, if the secrecy was any indication, he thought against it. "Or, at the least, my alternate?"

From: [identity profile] iron-command.livejournal.com
"Good distinction." Pike said calmly, seemingly intent on remaining where he was and letting Spock peer closer. "Your alternate knew." Not relenting on any more information then that. Well, perhaps a touch, "He was endlessly fascinated by the technology."
