Maybe he was just hungry and this meeting fit into his post-breakfast, pre-lunch break usually dedicated to eating one danish and one and a half oranges with whipped cream.
Spock gave Jim a small nod, acknowledging his words but saying nothing in return and didn't relax his demeanor. It was better for all involved just to assume that he was a half second away from throwing them across the room, as the threat would get across without any actual need for him to put aside pacificism.
Everything would go according to regulation, and he would get his danish before the lunch hour.
