[OOC: Star Trek Online: Part 3]
Mar. 6th, 2010 10:47 amHere's Part 3 of my ongoing review (and pic spam) of Star Trek Online!
To start off, meet some of Shiikaar's crew. I'll give you a long description of his wild bunch underneath.

Shiikaar - Bares a peculiar scar over his left eye, and the rest of his small, original crew bares a tattoo in memory of it. He was once a well known smuggler and pirate playing on any side of the borders, with routes through the neutral zone and beyond only he knows, until his ship was captured by the Feds. Given the choice between working for the Federation or being sent to a penal colony, the choice was easy. A small part of his original pirate crew has stayed with him. Shiikaar has little respect for authority unless they've earned it. He fights dirty, prefers a weapon in his hand over hand to hand combat. He does have an odd spiritual side - believes in ghosts, gods, and luck strongly (along with a good glass of liquor after wards). He, and his ship the Lanka'gar, are currently part of the 9th Task Fleet serving under Rear Admiral Surak. Shiikaar is the Wing Leader of the Assault Wing directly below Commander Ebonwood.
Sivak - Shiikaar's Vulcan chief science officer and first officer. Like the rest of his crew, bares the familiar mark of his crew over his left eye in a dark ink. Sivak, while still heavily Vulcan, also displays a keen sense of irony and sarcasm.
Sipin Rin - Human, and the ship's good man in charge of scanners. Shiikaar always states he's "got a gift for them". His mark is bright blue, like his hair. He is mute thanks to a nasty fight that has put a deep hatred of Romulans into Shiikaar. The scar is thick across his throat. Shiikaar has made it law on his ship that anyone who joins must know or learn SSL (Standard Sign Language).
Suvot - Shiikaar's other Vulcan on the bridge crew, a lovely navigator indeed and an excellent fighter. She is young for a Vulcan, but has the determination to prove herself to her sarcastic, teasing Captain. For a mission, she dyed her hair a light red to play off as Shiikaar's sister... and has kept doing so ever since.
Wilburn - Half human half trill and Ehjiss' young half-brother, looking slightly more human. Wilburn was blind from birth and bares a visor to help him see. An amazing engineer and in charge of the helm. His tattoo is white-yellow.
Ehjiss - Wilburn's older half brother, looking slightly more trill. This engineer is in charge of weaponry and defense on the bridge. His tattoo is white-yellow. The brothers often mimic each other.
Laroara - This Ferengi female is in charge of communications for Shiikaar's crew along with all accounting on the ship. Screwed, with a wicked sense of humor and a blade to match it. Her tattoo is deep purple.
M'Tiss - A Caitian that is the chief engineer on the ship, buried down in the engines that she loves. Has no real respect for anyone except Shiikaar, and even then sometimes its a bit questionable. Dyes her fur black around her left eye as scarring would not be visible. Speaks standard as well as her native tongue which is mostly in body language with growls, rolling sounds, and mewls. Her battle cry became Shiikaar's, which is a loud thrilling sound that ends in a cheer/cry.
Srel Zihl - Andorian, and the ship's chief medical officer. The only person M'Tiss will allow to treat her. Quiet, confident, and keeps sickbay colder than nearly anyone likes it...

Neat picture of us beaming up from a successful away mission.
So now sheerly information.
If you remember from the last post, I was trying to decide which of three vessels to pick. I ended up going with a Science Vessel.

She's gorgeous. @_@ She's quite fast, turns very well with some devices on her to help turn her. Does very well in battle. ^_^ I like having the extra science person which means I'll probably end up going Science as my final (Rear Admiral) vessel. I think next rank up I'll be trying out an escort.
I've been discovering how true it is that your Bridge Officer abilities is totally what makes or breaks your ship. Trying to keep up with what should be on your officers... not easy. I have plans to sit down for an hour or two and just try to plan out what my BOs should have on them to work together.
One of the other people in my fleet says he's remade his character at least three times because he wasn't happy with his end choices(!!!).

I did an amazing mission line involving the Giant Romulan Talking Space Donut, aka the Guardian of Forever. I had to go back in time and met...

It was quite an epic battle, and involved some Nimoy/Spock voice overs. It also explained to this fan about how they ret-conned the fact that the Klingons in TOS looked so different from TNG. It was quite epic.

This is just a bit of a giggle. The leader of my fleet wanted to show off his new ship. It's one of the biggest in the game. My ship, for comparison, is directly beside his ship (on the same plane and everything).

Now, he wanted to show off an ability he got (DO WANT) that let's him get by enemy ships with a much closer distance than you can naturally (You can get by anything beyond 10km, his cloaking lets him get by at 5km).

The RP fleet I'm in is pretty awesome. We're a big group, about 30 active players. Some very knowledgeable people, and everyone's ready to help out with questions, or a mission... I'm a little disappointed I didn't get to be a Wing Leader under the person I wanted to be under, who's a super good roleplayer and what not, but he said that Ebonwood, the other leader, would need a good man to serve under him. So with that, I decided to go serve under Ebonwood. We'll see how it works out. (I was a little sad because evidently the good RPer, who goes by the name of Thy'lek, had his wing leaders automatically assigned while Ebonwood got to chose).
The missions that are part of the story line are a lot of fun. They do give you some nice exp/officer points. The only down side is you can't level fully without doing the other missions that aren't really storyline based, but are more repetitive. Another downside is that people of different ranks really can't do missions together. I had someone of a higher rank come to help me, and the game auto-scaled because they were on my team. The mobs I had been having trouble (but slowly getting through) before suddenly could kill me in two hits. XD People of near-equal rank can do fine together.
Still: enjoying the game. They're developing new content, so there should be more to do. I'm a slow leveler, so I'm just enjoying what's out there now and still learning how to perfect my craft.
Also, random note: I finally bred the tribble I was working so hard to get! :3 I'll have to take a picture of him. I have a new tribble I'm working to get sheerly because they sell so damn (quite rare).
Another note: money, past Lt? Is very easy to make in this game. I have quite a bit of it now. XD (which is good because next level I'll be having to outfit a totally new type of ship! eeep!)
Everything for a little while after this is me taking pretty pictures!
