He closed the distance between them, pressing gently against her hand, and Christine spread her fingers slowly against his cheek, only shaking a little.

Reassurance and pleasure filled her mind. He was glad it had happened, happy she was able to do this; he wanted to share.

"Oh my," she breathed. "Oh my goodness."

It was different, strange: a little frightening, perhaps, but only because it was so new. She smiled, and shifted her fingers in his, finding a better grip.

"And...you can see what I'm thinking, too?" The idea was terrifying and exhilarating, all at once. She reached out with her mind, clumsily, shyly, unsure if he would pick up on the feelings she was sending: wonder, amazement, gratitude.
