"Tha idea is ta' allow overclocked slip shielding, aye?" Scotty rephrased as he eyed the diagrams before him. "Tae' allow fer the shields ta' focus power specifically an' deflect more effectively?"

He was less asking, at this point, and more stating as he read through the designs. It would require a good number of emitters, and the power drain would be a much greater burden on the main core than the normal shield alotment--especially if they required a separate system to regulate the new shield arrangement. It looked like the designer had taken the eventuality of system failure into mind, though, and that was comforting. Scotty had rigged stranger and would be called on to do so again, and again.

"If ye' can find someone who can math' er out--ye'd need years more experience in theoretical mathematics and variable equations then Ay've got, tha's fer right certain. An' ya' can find an operator who's got reaction time borderin' tha speed a' light," Scotty announced with a hiss, "Slo'est Ay'd wager ya' could fathom...twenty...nae, ten milliseconds."

He looked up at Kirk, then. "Any longer an' we'd all be in absolute barney."
