[Office Hours] -- [Open to All]

Completely wrung out from the night before, and still a little sore, Jim could not have been happier to be cleared for duty. It felt good to walk up to the bridge in his uniform, greet the alpha crew, tease Pasha at her duties, and go into his office.

Unfortunately, the amount of paperwork made it... less than happy, but at least he could get started on the mess. Inside the handsome and daring space captain was still a book worm, the child who loved the library and the man who collected actual paper books, and it was that book worm that had him start sorting things out first into folders and piles to get done. His fingers flew over the console, throwing files into each folder to sort it out. He reached over and tapped the comm, calling for Rand as well to help out.

It felt good to be the Captain again, and now he wanted to play catch up with his crew.

Jim looked up from his work, the scent of the warm pie catching his nose. It was a little early for the treat, but what the hey. He grinned and gestured for George to come in. "Don't let Rand catch you giving this to me. She'll be on my case. I think Bones put her up to it." He accepted the plate and dug into a bite of it, sighing. Damn, Sybok made a damn good pie. Cinnamon buried in it...

"Better eat the evidence fast then," George laughed and sat down. "Of course I could claim paternal rights on seeing my kid come back from a trip to the twenty-first century no one told me about until I ran into Karl in Bones' body..." Yes, George was just a bit miffed at that. Random bodyswitching out weighed honeymoon bliss.

"Eating a pie this good fast is a crime in at least three systems," Jim chirped up, laughing as well. "It was... insane. We got a few emails to Chris and them, and that was about it. Spock was having a little break down, somewhere between being human and acting like a kid in a candy store. Bones was upset there was no kind of sports going on, and we got to swim with dolphins. But we're here. Safe and all that."

[identity profile] kirk-george.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 05:36 pm (UTC)(link)
"Swimming with dolphins? Really? That's amazing. What was it like?" George leaned forward, curiosity thrumming through his body. "As far as I know, the Actors did alright. Karl was a bit upset so I took him up to the bridge to check it out and meet folks. Seemed to help."

"They're smart animals. Really playful too, and talk about strong. Could feel it every time they flipped their tail." Hearing about Karl upset... Jim had an idea what it probably was about. "I'm glad you managed to get him calmed down."

"What did they feel like?" George asked curiously. "I bet Spock wished he could have melded with them..."

He shrugged a bit at getting Karl calmed down. "It wasn't hard. Just a listening ear and a trip to see the bridge. Who wouldn't want to see command-central of this ship?"

"Sort of like wet rubber." It was the only thing Jim could think of. "A little spongy."

Jim nodded, chuckling. "Chris was pretty amped up to see the bridge, too."

"Are they hanging around then?" George leaned back into his chair. "Or are they going to head back...however you three managed to get here. How did you manage to get home anyway? I was afraid I'd have to message Winona that you were lost in the twenty-first century."

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't bother messaging her anything," Jim said quietly. There was still a deep unhappiness there. Her choice to leave again. "We actually got home thanks to John Hart. Have you met him?"

[identity profile] kirk-george.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 05:49 pm (UTC)(link)
George frowned. "I don't think I've met him..." He made a mental note of never messaging Winona. Made his life easier. He still was unhappy with her, and especially how things ended. "I'm glad he managed to retrieve you. So tell me more about the twenty-first century. Did you listen to any good music?"

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Actually," Jim leaned forward, "Chris can kill me later, but I bought a device there and had it loaded with as much digital music as I could find. I think I can find a way to unload it onto a PADD given some free time." The idea of how much of the music had been lost, what was popular for its day... it was exciting.

"You are going to let me raid that collection, right?" George said eagerly. "What about books?"

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
"Course I will. Picked up my love of the stuff from you after all." Jim smiled, taking another bite. "Grabbed some classics from a shop and a few extra copies to sell. Pristine condition and all that." Not quite above making a small extra buck for himself.

"That's your grandmother's genes in you," George said proudly.

Would have been nice to know her. Jim polished off the slice of pie, even scraping the plate. "Rand should be here in a minute and she and I will start going through this mess." Jim gestured over his console.

"I'm amazed you can find your desk," George teased a little. "I half expected to be digging you out of an avalanche of padds

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2010-09-21 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
"Rand, evidently, is very good at what she does," Jim chuckled.

I'll have to meet this paragon of awesomeness sometime," George smiled. "The times I spent a good two or three days buried under an avalanche of padds..."
