[Need to Punch Something] -- [Kirk and Kirk]

Between finding out about Alex, finding out about Spot, and finding out that the bridge had gotten something from the planet below, Kirk was... well, frustrated wasn't quite the word. Stressed was definitely it, and there was one thing (other then alcohol, and he was refusing to go that low right now) that worked to get him ... okay TWO things including sex, but that wasn't (amazingly) on his mind either.

He wanted to punch something. Hard. Jim sounded like a good idea for a sparring partner right now.

With a fast comm to Jim, he had himself a sparring partner as he got off shift. He went back to his quarters and pulled on the same basic clothing he had worn back at the Academy when teaching classes - no formal gi, just loose shorts and a tee shirt.

He glanced around the gym, wondering if he had beat Jim there. When he didn't spot his counterpart, he found a flat, open spot and started to stretch out. Briefly, he wondered if pulling out safety equipment would be a good idea. At least the gloves. It'd keep his knuckles from ending up with bruises... and putting any on Jim.

"By thirteen?" Kirk looked confused about that. "What do you mean by thirteen? And... well, I'd like to work towards a major in Helm/Nav, almost to a minor now." He shrugged a little, "I feel... weird if I'm not learning something new." A little laugh, "I guess... the bookworm I was as a kid never went away."

[identity profile] original-fine.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
"If you didn't go to high school," Jim said, confused now. He frowned. "How old were you on Tarsus, Jim?"

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"...I was eleven when I ended up there. I was fifteen when I got back to Earth." He said cautiously, "What about you?"

[identity profile] original-fine.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was only supposed to be there for a year," Jim said. "I was thirteen. Turned fourteen on the way home." He shrugged. "I was only saying, if you ran away after that, I was wondering how you learned enough to pass the exams. It was just an idle thought--mock-jealousy at you showing me up again." He grinned, to show it was indeed mock. "I'm impressed you did what you did, Jim. You should be really proud. Whatever your reasons."

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Only a year? Kirk hesitated, then asked quietly, "Why were you on Tarsus at all?" He wasn't sure he wanted to know, but... had to ask.

[identity profile] original-fine.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"I was so antsy to go off-world," he said. "Always threatening to stow away on some merchant ship. I didn't mean it, of course, but my parents saw my interest was serious, and arranged for me to stay with some relatives who were colonists there. So I could see what it was like, traveling, living on another planet, being away from Earth." He looked away wistfully. "I loved it. Until..." He refocused on Kirk, shrugging off the memory. "You know." His brow furrowed. "Why? Why were you?"

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Kirk felt a shiver go down his spine, "...Mom ended up marrying... this guy name Frank. He didn't know how to deal with Sam and I.. Not... a nice guy. In fact, he ended up hating us. He let Sam run away, never ever went after him. When Sam ran away... I.." He looked almost sheepish, "I stole my dad's antique car that Frank wanted to sell... and ended up driving it over a cliff in front of a cop. Got put in jail... because they didn't know who I was. Frank pretended not to know me, and they couldn't find Mom, so I ended up with relatives on Tarsus."

[identity profile] original-fine.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim started up, horrified.

"As punishment?" He couldn't keep the anger from his voice. "Jim..." His heart broke for the boy Kirk had been--he had been.

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 11:54 pm (UTC)(link)
"Don't. Don't..." He gave Jim a look - he didn't want that. "I'm me, now. I deal with it."

[identity profile] original-fine.livejournal.com 2009-12-14 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim shook his head. "Just... let me be angry, for a minute," he said. "It's not pity to be pissed off. That's me."

He wasn't sure Kirk did deal with it. But that wasn't his business, right now.

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
Kirk looked away, but nodded. He didn't have anything to say about it. It sounded like pity, even if Jim didn't mean it.

[identity profile] original-fine.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
Jim watched him for a moment. He knew that look. He didn't think he'd worn in it a long time. Kirk didn't really understand--but that was okay. It was the same way he didn't understand what drove Jim. Not pity. Pity wasn't what lit a fire under him to make things different.

He shook it off, for now, and scooted slightly so he was beside Kirk.

"Never mind," he said. "We don't have to be the same, or have the same reasons for being here. Enough that we're here, right? Doing our job. What matters is we're good at it." He grinned. "And look good doing it."

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 02:18 pm (UTC)(link)
He'd learn, given time. Time was something they didn't have enough of, but they'd have to make do. Kirk glanced up from the corner of his eye towards Jim as the other came in close, body heat a wanted feeling.

He smiled.

"Got a point, there." Damn, Jim looked good when he grinned like that, making him want to grin in return. He nudged their shoulders together, glad that they could even do this again. The tension was mostly gone.

[identity profile] original-fine.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim was good at easing tensions. Trouble was, it wasn't always his job, and it wasn't always the best thing. So he was glad they were here, together, mostly relaxed. But it didn't mean he could leave things the way they were.

"So we've got the away team thing mostly sorted," he said. "Anything else I should know about?"

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
"Not that I can think of." Kirk shook his head, but there was probably something he was just forgetting. There was so much going on. "How about with you? What's going on Jim?" He closed his eyes, leaning in against Jim just for a little while.

(OOC: ...I'm assuming Kirk's talk with Tina hasn't happened yet.)

[identity profile] original-fine.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim sat, still and steady for Kirk, just absorbing the warmth. If Kirk really did think and feel as he said he did, they would come into conflict again. But he would deal with that when it came.

He wasn't about to tell him about Tina. Or his recent conversation with Len. Both of which had been taking up a lot of his thought lately.

"The usual," he said lightly. "Promiscuity and laziness." He paused slightly, and in a softer tone, continued, "I miss Spock."

[OOC - I have no idea when anything's happening anymore! Works for me.]

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"I miss him too...Oh." Suddenly, he knew something else, "...we're both missing a Spock." He slumped, "...Spock's in sickbay, unconscious, doing some... Vulcan healing stuff. Said he needed it badly enough to take leave for it."

[identity profile] original-fine.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim frowned, inclining his head slightly though at this angle he could only see the curve of Kirk's cheek.

"He okay?" he said. "My Spock--I mean, I know they're not the same, the experiences are different, but I've got some baseline of comparison--he hardly ever asks for leave."

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wish I knew." Kirk hated admitting when he didn't know. "He.. tried to show me the inside of his head. Everything was... going, but in places it was slowed or stopped. He said he wanted to fix those spots."

A glance up, "I got the feeling it's dangerous as hell to be doing, but... stopping him from doing it didn't seem like a good idea either."

[identity profile] original-fine.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim chuckled, without much mirth. "There's not much to stop a Spock when he's made up his mind," he said. "Not unless you can, and want to, play on his loyalties. But that sort of thing does more harm than good."

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:44 pm (UTC)(link)
"I wonder about loyalties sometimes, and I'm not about to push that yet. You could... but you've had years." Kirk shrugged a little, shifting, "...Honestly? Just worried he isn't going to wake up." The tone went nearly to a mumble as he tried to hide it.

[identity profile] original-fine.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim now turned more fully to look at Kirk.

"Why would you say that? If it's some sort of healing trance, and M'Benga probably knows this, you can always slap him."

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Spock mentioned that." Kirk shrugged a little, "You might be used to all this Vulcan stuff, I'm just... not." You sound like an idiot worried about his lost puppy. Spock can handle himself. Stop talking about it.

[identity profile] original-fine.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Jim put an arm around him.

"You know what?" he said. "No matter how liberal we might be, it is alien. We're out here amongst the unknown. Vulcans--Spock especially--included. I can't tell you not to worry. But I'm sure he'll be okay."

[identity profile] kirktastic.livejournal.com 2009-12-15 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
...Note to self: go visit Spock. "Probably will be, but I'll feel a lot better when he's awake again." He wondered if this would be okay, for now... things between them. He wanted it to be.
