Kirk stared silently at Uhura for a long moment, as if he didn't understand. Maybe he didn't. She couldn't really mean.. his eyes flickered once to Spock, but saw nothing in those dark, impassive eyes. Kirk took a breath, chest expanding very visibly before he stood up.

He looked to her eyes, dark, darker in the dim light of the room. He stepped forward and curled his fingers with hers, wishing he fully understood its meaning. What was running through their heads?
